MapleStory does not launch.
No error message or warning message is displayed to the user.

The game will install and act like it's booting and running, but nothing shows up. Mostly likely due to the anti-cheat the game uses.
If there's a way to either bypass the anti-cheat or have it work in Linux, I don't see a way to get MapleStory to work. I was able to get a private server to install and run just fine in Lutris, but that private server doesn't use the typical anti-cheat that GMS uses.

Despite Mabinogi running in Lutris, MapleStory does not.
Since I was able to get the Nexon Launcher and Mabinogi running in Lutris, I attempted to to the same with MapleStory. However, it looks like something about this game's anticheat is different -- where Mabinogi's launched right away, MapleStory's never does, which causes the game itself to not launch.
I want this one to work, but it looks like it's not ready yet.

Game does not launch, even when using Bottles which worked for Mabinogi.
I was not able to boot the game in Steam using any version on Proton, nor could I boot it using Bottles using the same method that worked for Mabinogi. As both of these games use Nexon's Game Guard, I doubt the anti-cheat is the issue.

Nothing happens
Crashes immediately. Cannot see Nexon launcher.

Game is fully broken and doesn't work on Linux.
Changed Windows version to Windows 10 via protontricks.
Only on the experimental version of Proton could I get into the launcher, but as soon as I log in, Steam's green "Play" button would re-appear so clearly the game just isn't working at all. Tried many different launcher options as well, nothing helping me get past the launcher.

Game crashed just after Nexon launcher window.
I have tried playing with video settings and manually running through custom proton install, I assume the anti-cheat is now killing the process on startup but without application logging I am unable to verify this.
Unable to play the game
The Nexon launcher will launch, but then nothing pops up and the game closes.
Well this is a revision to my review. I was able to play for about 8 hours on 3 sessions, then today it crashes after 30 seconds or so, consistently. This just goes to show it can work with great performance but Nexon is filtering people out by OS or something.
Crashes after 30 seconds, no error.

Weird resolutions, doesn't detect desktop resolution
Crashes after a minute or so of playing, with blank message box
Crashes after a minute or so
No issues loading through steam. Ran latest proton experimental, logged into my account and loaded my world.
Surprised based on the other feedback but no issues whatsoever playing. Loaded up my account from 10+ years ago and hopped right in.
can load into the game fully but after playing for a few seconds to a minute it just force closes without any errors
not sure if eac problem or a missing .dll or something causing it to crash
Unplayable
Screen kept windowing and changing size between scenes.
You can login, select a server, create a character, and enter the game world. The game will forcibly boot you out and crash in minutes
Re-mapped keyboard bindings to Steam Deck controls
100% Crash rate on every attempt. After playing for a few minutes the game forcibly boots you out with an error (Post-Destiny update)
The crash error seems to have placeholder text (It only displays an "OK" button that is clickable but doing so does nothing). This text will display on every attempt to play the game.
100% Crash rate on every attempt. Game forcibly boots you out with an error.
Error text that pops up during the crash is not useful and seems like a placeholder. It appears as a giant text box with nothing written on it other than a clickable "OK" button that does nothing.

Full screen freezes the game after character selection
Game crashes after 2 minutes of playing
Main menu works, but freezes and then crashes upon choosing a character
after selecting the character game starts and crash if is in full screen
the crashes while playing was really common it was playable but not make any progress in game after so much crashing
random crashes seem after on skills or selecting maps or settings
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Adjusted windows version settings to WinXP, 7 and 10 Also tried installing d3dx9 using protontricks
If I did not use Alt-Enter on the menu screen before selecting my character then the game flickers black and freezes my X-server.
Game sometimes froze, but would resume before eventual crash.
Game reliably freezes for a min then crashes to desktop.
It's progress as with Proton-GE-7-10 I can not only get through the menu, but select my character and even play for a few minutes before the game freezes for a min then crashes rather gracefully to the desktop.
Doesn't go beyond the nexon account screen
Game said it had launched, but nothing ever showed
EL antihack no inicia correctamente y no permite el inicio del juego.

Nothing happens
It will open the menu that lets me set up an account, and then after logging in it will say that MapleStory is starting. It will show this page for a few seconds before closing, without the game ever starting. When looking at system monitor, I can see a MapleStory.exe
process running, but it is using 0% CPU and N/A Memory. Very sad since my uncles like this game and I wanted to try it out ☹

Launcher works, but game doesn't launch.
Message box appears with message, "This game can not run under virtual machine" and game refuses to launch.
Game windows opens saying it will launch the game, screen then disappears and nothing happens.

Still can't play the game :(
It starts but then hangs up and nothing is happening.
Launcher shows for a brief moment then it disappears leaving the game hanging open. You have to close the process manually.

Shows pre-launcher but nexon anti-cheat seems to stop the app from working.

The Nexon launcher appear for a brief second, after which it disappears but leaves the process running. The game must be killed manually.

Pre-Launcher pops up (which normally starts the anti-hack protection) and the game hangs with the following message in the log. 5411.432:0083:0084:trace:seh:call_stack_handlers calling handler at 0x7bc805f0 code=c0000005 flags=10 5411.432:0083:0084:trace:seh:call_stack_handlers handler at 0x7bc805f0 returned 2 Until it eventually overflows. Game must be killed via task manager at this point.
