Works wonderfully with no tinkering
All story mode videos finally work with Proton Experimental. Playstation button layout is detected when disabling Steam input.
Only the videos of chapters 1 and 2 had problems in earlier Proton, videos which many players may have seen already in the previous game. So it's not a game-changer, but good to have finally.
Works perfectly without any tinkering!
If you want, you can set the resolution to 1920x1080 in the game properties to get better graphics (especially UI and icons).
Works perfectly as far as I have experienced. Problems with videos (story/movelist) are not present on current Proton Experimental.

No tinkering required, this game runs as well as if it was built natively.
Had significant performance issues on GNOME. Fixed by switching to GNOME Classic.

Preceived dips in FPS, strangely mangohud did not report any frame dips
Accessing Move list from Training Crashes. Alongside main lobby. Private lobbies are fine
Game works perfectly with absolutely no modifications/caveats
When I started playing this game in February, the cut scenes in story mode did not work and the videos in training mode were static. I don't know when things changed, but as of today all of the videos work perfectly in the story mode and training mode. Using default proton on stable channel.
Works out of the box on GE Proton. Same performance than windows. Specify Proton GE compatibilty in Steam>Settings (not per game) Or it might not show up on the install menu.
I'm currently not having any of the issues with Story mode videos not playing correctly.
I guess the recent update that added 2B also fixed the video issue. Works for me with GE-Proton8-32, Proton Experimental, and Proton 8.0.5
Online mode and everything else seems to work just fine
Sometimes, due to Wi-Fi, the rollback doesn't work for a few seconds. Otherwise, it's fine for me.
Overall, this is a solid fighting game to play on Linux. I hadn't had any issues with how things work in this game, though I'm not good at it whatsoever. I will say this, though, that if you use GE Proton, you're going to have a bad time online, for you'll get an error code that be hopefully fixed, so just use Experimental for now (I use the bleeding edge version).
Slow cutscenes, low game FPS in combat
protontricks install allcodecs and wmp11
movies in story mode don't play, without codecs I get the "no signal" screen like in old TVs and with all codecs it's just black but with audio
the story mode movies not working is a bummer but everything else is fine and you can still play the story mode, it will just lack some context and cool animations
With GE-Proton8-25, Story mode cutscenes play the first few frames and then stop. The game does not crash, and the audio still plays and subtitles are shown correctly. Only the video doesn't work
Online and Arcade mode seem fine. Also the command list videos seem to play just fine for me with ProtonGE
The game functions perfectly besides cutscenes in story mode. Good enough to play against friends in versus mode.
Cutscenes caused the game to immediately freeze
Videos do not work. Whilst gameplay works perfectly, I cannot recommend it due to videos not working.
Alot of reports saying it works flawlessly - as long as you only play arcade and multiplayer. However the story mode is indeed part of the game and unplayable due to the videos not working.
You will enjoy this if you are okay with arcade/multiplayer only. The story mode, on the other hand, is unplayable.
Cutscenes are frozen in story mode.
Sometimes, the game becomes unable to join online matches. Once it starts it will happen repeatedly. Fixed by restarting the game.
The game plays fine but the story mode is basically unplayable since all the cutscenes are broken.
Cutscenes in story mode using GEProton 8.25 will get stuck either on a black screen or one of the first few frames. Default proton version results in cutscene simply being static screens.
This seems to be an issue carried over from the first version of the game ( Granblue Fantasy Versus) and never fixed.
If you are only aiming to play Arcade/Multiplayer, the game runs rather flawlessly. You might be let down if you only intend to run story.
Running on Proton GE 8-25 seems to fix the video preview issue in the training menu.
Story mode has problems with animated cutscenes turning black with audio still playing in the background.
Outside of this problem, the game is fully playable.

If you have data from the first GBVS you need a little thinkering to be able to transfer it, I personnaly copied the folder RED and GBVS from the GBVS prefix:
SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/1090630/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/
into the GBVSR prefix:
SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2157560/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/
after that you should be able to get your data enjoy.
the only issues, beside data transfer, are the choppiness when doing some move the first time running the game, then it stabilise and doesn't occur after and the that the video of the movelist aren't playing. In other word no big deal.
Video cutscenes in Story mode don't work
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winegstreamer=d %command%
The videos on the movelists will crash, adding the launch command will disable the videos playing altogether. The game runs flawlessly otherwise.
The in-game tutorial vidoes show up as static using the default compatability. Switch to GE for the videos. Online works perfectly
This game is as it works on Windows, but with one caveat that you should avoid looking at the move list for the time being.
Crashes when trying to view the move list of characters. Probably need to reencode these if possible, or implement the the codec/translate it to a supported one.
Wait for Proton to fix the movie playing issue and and the game will be perfect.
Works fine, use Proton 8 for online
Slight shimmering even at highest preset.
Playing with Proton Experimental causes error 030D-0000 when trying to play with someone in the lobby.
doesn't run under GE-Proton8-23 for some reason
