I have played the entire game in Non-VR with 1080p 60fps and mouse/keyboard. Everything works without any problems, including video/cutscenes and the achievements.

If you don't use the older Proton version, then you get problems with the camera view. Your view will be forced to the top if you move your mouse to strong.

Note: I have found an Non-VR Bug I think this bug exists as well without Proton: in the Trial it is possible that you can't see the entire hint table. Your view of the hint table is cut, therefore you must out of sight use trial and error till your choosen hint get accepted.
