WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_9=n" %command%
Add XAudio 2.9 dll file and use WINEDLLOVERRIDES env.
Slightly fps loss on some field. CPU/GPU resource not fully used.
Vanilla game config will cause a CRASH randomly.
See report by Xanadul (https://www.protondb.com/app/1562940#dHaPxNjsLJ) to fix this or the game will be UNPLAYABLE.
After fixes, the game runs at GOLD level with slightly performance issue.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_9=n" WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
Audio stops in random intervals, crashing the game soon after.
Out of the box the game crashes in random intervalls (10min to 6h). First audio cuts off, but you can still save if you are lucky enough to be out of combat/cutscene. Some time after audio cutoff, it crashes completely. This is fixable! Based on a post by u/jimbobvii in r/Falcom:
- Open a web browser and download the XAudio 2.9 redistributable from https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.XAudio2.Redist/ (Click Download package on the right side of the page).
- Open the downloaded package with Ark or an archive manager of your choice, and extract /build/native/release/bin/x64/xaudio2_9redist.dll
- Copy the redist DLL into the /bin/Win64 subfolder of the game's install directory and rename it to xaudio2_9.dll
- Install Proton tkg (maybe Proton GE works too), I recommend using protonup-qt for easily installing custom proton versions. I used Proton-tkg 7.6.r12
- Restart Steam (or on deck: Exit Desktop mode)
- Right-click on the game in your Steam Library and choose Properties. Under Launch Options, paste WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_9=n" %command%, forcing the game to load the downloaded DLL.
- Under Compatibility, check "Force use of...", select Proton-tkg
Didn't encounter any more crashes after doing so. You can also install an unofficial English patch too, should be easy to find on google (I'd say 95% of text are translated). Lets hope we don't have to wait too long for Nisa to make a proper PC port for the west...
The game is mostly playable but always freezes after you have been playing for some time.
Slowdowns on some areas like crossbell but this happens on windows too
Game stops the music and sounds and then freezes
The unofficial english patch works on linux. If you dont mind constantly saving the game before each action and playing on easy to replay the parts you havent saved before the freeze , otherwise i would just recommend playing the windows port.
All in all, good.
The PC port is not great to begin with, and the experience on Linux is even worse.
Very long loading time. Sometimes the game just crashes after staying in the loading screen for several minutes. However AFAIK this problem is also present on Windows, so I doubt if proton is actually responsible here.
(Already mentioned in the performance section) Sometimes the game crashes after staying in the loading screen for several minutes.
I finished the game on Windows and only tried the post-game dungeon on linux, so there might be other issues that I'm not aware of.
