Works perfectly
Frame rate was very bad before sorting out drivers - needed to use Nvidia instead of default nouveau

LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command% -vulkan
On the first start game lowers resoluton and resolution scale. Luckely you can turn them back in the settings menu Graphics-Gameplay resolution scale. Without LD_PRELOAD="" game starts lagging after about half an hour of playing. After adding LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command% -vulkan
everything seems good. Was able to play ranked 2v2 and ranked 1v1 with no problems.

proton 9 or experimental led to stuttering / game slowdowns, but all fine with proton hotfix
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%

Mouse likes to escape the screen.
Random slowdowns and hitches occasionally.
Recommend experimental or proton 9.0-4.

Might look good if you can get HDR support
Does not look good
It runs well but looks terrible at max settings. Not sure if this is because of a lack of HDR

Lower framerate and less consistent framerate compared to windows
Games could randomly crash, it looks like limiting framerate to 30fps and reducing resolution helps. Used to work better, not sure if it was a driver update or game update that changed things.
Nothing seems to make it work.
Game freezes after 1-2 seconds on the initial splash screen

Fantastic! Works out of box, you just have to enter Graphics settings and set everything to max and 4k. Linux gaming is awesome !
Game runs flawless at 4k, no sweat for the 3090 at 120fps.

Only with steam flatpak, tinkering with gamemode solves it
textures load a few ms late
FS has issues, better use Borderless FS
Steam Version: 1731433018
AOE4 v12.0.2246.0
Steam update (or recent siege rework patch) breaks the game!
MASSIVE PERFORMANCE DROPS on inputs (M&K/B) after some time playing (random?) use this WORKAROUND (as a launch command):
LD_PRELOAD="" %command%

É um jogo que muitos profissionais de tecnologia jogam. Programadores e afins jogam no Linux.
Many crashes after last AOE4 update
O jogo funcionava muito bem antes da última grande atualização. Ainda está funcionando mas apresentando crashes frequentes.

Mouse cursor is initially a bit off, you have to navigate your way through the menu with your keyboard to fix the resolution. After that, it's gone.
Regular drops in FPS

Fun strategy game, could get booring after a while. But you will start playing it again later.
Fully working, even with modded maps from steam workshop. Not a single issue faced.

gamemoderun %command%
Had some weird frame drops when scrolling around and specifically circling my mouse around farms.
However I found that having gamemoderun installed and using the launch option fixed those issues: gamemoderun %command%

Moving the mouse's perspective will result in extremely low fps
Moving the mouse's perspective will result in extremely low fps

Missing HDR
SHIFT button was not released had to press it again to release
Got FPS drops
Got FPS drops, Game is very smooth on Windows but on Linux is a bit laggy
With Proton 9.0-2 the game froze after playing about 10 seconds, with Proton Experimental I got 50% higher fps than under Windows 11!
Before setting resolution and full screen settings the mouse didn't work but I could tab my way through the menu

gamemoderun mangohud %command% -high -vconsole -vulkan -vulkan_disable_steam_shader_cache -dx12
FPS spikes like about 50 fps spike
Good servers and no problems with the servers
If we dont count the giant FPS spikes good game and even playable with the FPS spikes but its annoying

The desync issue in multiplayer games appears to have been resolved since I last played.
VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json %command%
Works flawlessly without any tweaks

Works out of the box!
The only thing, which I needed to perform was tuning my graphics settings to maximum, as they were set to minimum.

DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="Quadro T2000 with Max-Q Design" %command%
Game starts in low res mode. Mouse cursor is off. Need to use keyboard arrow keys and tab to select correct resolution.
DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME needs to be set in launch options, otherwise game crashes immediately on startup, along with an error message saying it could not find the display card. You can find the correct device_name with vulkaninfo | grep deviceName

_GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_PATH="/home/hab/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/data/Steam/steamapps/common/Age of Empires IV" gamemoderun %command%
On first stratup. After inital startup works the game seems to run okk for now on Proton 8.0-5
Use Protin 8.0-5 On first startup tell the steam app to wait and to to shut down then restart once game has loaded. Game will load normaly going foward.

Needed to fix multiplayer with the desync patch available for linux, this fixed the multiplayer freezing. Been playing MP since this fix and it runs perfectly.

Better than expected
It started in a low resolution window and suggested low video settings as if blind to my GPU but it was not an issue. I ignored the warnings and was fine at 1080 @ 100% scale and medium-high settings.
Tested and working: Campaign progress via Steam cloud saves, Multiplayer observation of random games, Friend/group/game requests, Multiplayer friend match versus AI [>90 min]

Major stutter when scrolling around the map.
If you wiggle the mouse over farms there is major fps/frametime drops.

Game seems to run fine but randomly freezes and have to force quit. Not playable for me. Tested only single player.
Random units freeze
No issues other than it not detecting your specs correctly leading to all graphical settings being set to their lowest

Runs great
No tinkering required with my setup. Worked out of the box.

Had no issues, played multiplayer with friends that were on windows
Window Borderless does not give correct resolution. Recommend using Fullscreen and there will be no problems.
With Proton Experimental and Proton 9.0, not running in the steam menu
after adding launch options now starts in full screen mode but the mouse highlights items as if screen is in top left quarter of the screen
