Controls on Steam Deck map well to what a gamer would use with an XBox controller, and I often use an Xbox controller when playing over HDMI
After making changes to VIDEO settings in-game, like increasing textures, lowering water reflectivity, the resolution changed to something like 480p, and played zoomed on my LCD Steam Deck screen. I wasn't able to change the resolution in the in-game settings as from then on the selection box was disabled. I was forced to uninstall the game and reinstall. After this, I just play with the defaults.
Steam OS crashes occasionally when exiting to desktop. It reboots immediately with a message VERIFYING INSTALLATION prior to boot up.

It tells you your GPU driver is out of date, but if just hit OK it runs 100%. I did test it on both Hero launcher (epic games) and steam, yes i have two copys of the game :P Steam seems to run a bit better, the water looks more like the water from when running on windows 10. but if on epic games you drop it gfx from high to mid, it more then playable. All in all a good time, as a first timer on Linux. Ill report back when i got some hours under the belt. Stay safe.
Update to my previous report. Seems to run out of the box now without issues.

I didn't make it past the start menu.
After a back and forth of Proton versions, the game started. However, it froze immediately in the options and my PC crashed when loading a level. I didn't make it any further.

Immediately (2-15s) after entering world crashes the whole PC, meaning I need to re-enter my password to log in to my system.
Game installs, menus work, starts but crashes immediately after.

Surprised how well this ran. It prompted that the AMD GPU driver was out of date on launch but no issues in playability or installation. Reducing quality seems to help greatly.
Game does not start / only blackscreen
- Installs fine, tried various proton versions including the GE-Proton 8.3
- Disabled Steam Cloud
- I get only the OS Detection error that i need Windos 10, clicking "yes" and then blackscreen (Proton Experimental, Proton 8.0-2, 7.0-6) or CrashHandler
Works fine!
I did get the messages telling me to upgrade to Windows 10 (lol) and that my amd drivers were outdated (using a RTX3070 Ti) (lolol). But you can just ignore these and the game laucnhes fine, everything else works fine
It will tell you that the game runs best on Windows 10, and your graphics drivers are out of date. Runs good though.
everything to low
20 fps with everything to the lowest settings, including resolution scale
Multiplayer is pointless imho in a fishing game, but it does function.

been waiting to write this
After the latest patch the Angler finally works again on steamdeck! The patch was specifically for steamdeck! Runs great
After signing up with Apex Connect the game crashes afterwards while loading the map. I had to disconnect and delete my account connection.
Some weeks ago the game could be played with no problems, after an update i had crashes while loading the map, after disconnecting from Apex Connect and deleting my account connection the game runs again with some minor graphic artifacts. I tried to install it on another PC and can't get into the game (the game closes and a window with "Crash report" appears). Haven't tried it further. It seems like you just have to have luck with your setup.

Doesn't run on Steam Deck at time

App will warn of Windows version and graphics drivers and then present a crash report
Tried multiple Proton versions because theHunter: Call of the Wild needed some tinkering too (graphical glitches)
Does not work.
Proton Experimental
After the last update: game crashes while loading into the game
I played the game flawless (with some minor graphic glitches) for about 12 h on Steam with Proton experimental. After the last update the game loads into the start screen, but keeps crashing while loading the park. I tried different Proton and Proton-GE versions but the crashing persists. I tried it on another PC (Linux Mint 21) there the game won't load even into the Start screen. I am a little disappointed. But until a new update or some start parameters will do the trick, the game remains unplayable (for me at least).
Previous report: "Works well out of the box - Some minor graphic glitches, two error messages at start (system reqirements, no amd driver, just close them) the game works well without any further tuning. I have to check if the multiplayer works also."

Works amazingly well on linux and steamdeck
The game runs perfectly on my system and my steamdeck. Controller support and mouse and keyboard support all works out of the box, no crashes so far. Multiplayer just works.
There is an initial error or two when you launch the game stating you have out of date drivers or lack of hardware compatibility, however, just click ok on those and the game still runs normally.
I think the ill informed errors are just because the game doesn't recognise linux but it all works out of the box. They have no affect on the games ability to run. :)
