This isnt for everyone. Just those that use their decks as their main PC and docked.
In handheld mode the text is small but I run games docked so its not an issue.
In handheld mode the image is fullscreen however the mouse is locked to the top left of the screen as if the mouse is set to a different resolution to the game. I did force change the resolution from default to native to a few manual options and some fixed the issue some did not. It actually felt like it differed every time I tried.
See windowed/Fullscreen issue.
Fantasy Grounds does not use Steam Cloud Save so back up your own campaigns incase of a system crash. the game ID to look for is 1196310 for the full version. It is different if you use the demo version.
There is little point using this in handheld mode unless you are a player that can not access a PC or dock the deck, or a DM that likes to be able to log in and check a few things while on the go but you really need a keyboard, mouse and monitor to run a game efficiently.
Perfect out of the box experience. No proton required.
Now works natively in linux without tinkering. I've hosted a few sessions so far without issues.
Had players connect to me zero issues.
I have custom extensions I develop and they work without issue as well.
Since the last few updates it no longer crashes when exiting!
Cannot play with Native version; Proton as workaround
The Native version of the game does not connect to a campaign hosted by the Windows version. It remains stuck at "Attempting to resolve server ..." and never asks for the password.
As a workaround, you can force the game to launch with Proton 6.3 via the Manage > Properties > Compatibility on the game page in Steam. You will be able to play fine, but it will hang if you try to close the game. You will have to force quit it.
Linux native version does not connect to windows version.
I tested tonight the native version, it doesn't connect to the windows version online, i see the server but when i try to connect to the game it wait's forever. Seems like a version conflict?
Crashes when exiting but runs normally.
- Download the .bin file here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?61261-Linux-Testing
- Perform the steps in the post, it will install it on your local /home/ directory. You will need to tweak it if you want it on a separate drive.
- Login, activate your product via your license key (In steam assuming)
- Once you get to the main splash screen, you can close it and launch it natively in Steam from here on out. 4a) Might need to tweak play path if you are installing on a separate drive.
I have ran it for under 1 hour and so far no issues. Since it's my main method for hosting Tabletop games with my players I will no doubt put more hours into it. I also have some custom extensions for my games that I will have to test. Will update the guide here with any further updates/patches/fixes that I run into.
The dev team is currently working on a native windows release. There has been some slow-down but given even the windows version is a beta it might be a year away still.
Tries to install but fails... stating that the FGUpdaterEngine.exe is missing
Broken. There is no fix at the moment. FantasyGrounds state its in early access and there is a linux version coming at some point
