First thing i did was following this guide,
Link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2180417704
if the game keeps crashing you should try and delete 2 folders from the game directory GfWl and G4w the location should be home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Fable 3/
if none of the above helps.
try and download protontricks in desktop mode through the discover tab
and follow these steps
- download and lunch protontricks 2.select fable 3 and click OK
- select 'Select the default wineprefix'
- select 'Install a Windows DLL or Component'
- check the files 'xact' and 'xact64' wait for a few moments and retry playing the game.
P.s I also installed 'vcrun2008', it might help as well.
I started with a the GWFL fix as seen here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/105400/discussions/0/1628538005528399439/ This alone did not work. It would get stuck on preparing first time start up. I then edited the installscript.vdf file in the games install directory to remove GFWL. This would still hang. I had given up on using proton so I decided to try it with wine alone. So I checked lutris to see if there was anything there and there was a steam proton version on there. I install the script and it just started the game. Now I can launch through steam. Long story short the Lutris script seems to make it work. You may need to modify the installscript.vdf file.
Use lutris. May need to edit the installscripts.vdf file.

Using Proton-621-GE-2 game starts, but cant actually play
After installing the windows live workaround mentioned below, the Game gets to character selection, and you can pick your character, or access in game settings, but the minute you continue past that intial menu the loading screen hangs and then crashes, or blackscreens if you tab out and back in
note that you may have to run it once first before adding the windows live workaround to properly activate it, it will still make you activate it AGAIN after modding it, but if you dont it wont start at all

6.3.8, 4.11
no luck even with installing the fix suggested by prior users, maybe worked on previous version before current nvidia driver, but now doesn't even appear to attempt to boot, would love to see someone who knows what their doing make a fix

Post installation steps get stuck at 4/8
I was all prepped to use the workarounds listed by other users, but when I launched the game for the first time to do the post install steps the process froze at 4/8.
Furthermore, it soft bricks the installation, because I can't even get Fable to uninstall from Steam. I have to manually delete the folder and prefix myself, then restart steam and tell it to uninstall Fable 3, at which point it will detect that the directory is gone and remove it from my installed games list.
Just doesn't boot
Fails to launch with "Unhandled page fault on read access" error
Controller detected using 3.7-8 but any input crashes the game
Have to use PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command% to launch the game.
Must also delete the Games for Windows live folder from
"SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/105400/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/"
Must also download the xlive.dll to bypass GFWL. Put this in the root folder of the game.

The installer crash right after activating the game.
Follow instructions here, using steam to open local files. Extract the .zip to kill xlive and make sure to move the .ini and other file into your game folder. The rest is as written. https://steamcommunity.com/app/105400/discussions/0/1628538005528399439/

Game will start, with dll, but stops at black screen
Previously game would not start. Downloaded and extracted an xlive.dll file from https://wikidll.com/microsoft/xlive-dll, then tried running it again. Game would now succesfully open, only to show a black screen with the Fable III-themed cursor.

install xlive.dll from "xlive.dll (Bulletstorm).zip"
https://steamcommunity.com/app/105400/discussions/0/1628538005528399439/ Follow details here to disable GFWL and acquire DLCs

Game not started.

Fails at installing "Games for Windows --- Live", accepts activation key, activates, then crashes. Re-starting will immediately crash again.
