I don't know if it is related to me being on Linux but I had 150~ ping with my friend that lives in a neighboring city, but could be on his end though. Even with high ping it was pretty alright except for this hockey minigame.

Switch to borderless to fix this issue, else it will follow everywhere you go if you're using a window manager or a wayland compositor.
Tried reinstalling the game, trying out different proton versions, looking it up on forums, launching this game through steam as a non steam game, asking a damn AI about this issue, nothing could fix it.
When I tried playing the previous installments of the series (Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami) it worked fine.
Also I recall when I first launched the game the controller did work but now it does not.
My setup was GOG through Lutris and a Dualshock controller.
If the reader's a GOG user, expect controller issues like not being able to connect it and enjoy your game, unless there is a better support for Xbox controllers that I do not know of. I could not find a solution for this issue and you probably just get the game on Steam or somewhere else cheaper.
