Even with or without tinkering, the game was laggy. On Windows, the game runs smooth.

PZ runs smoothly natively, a lot better than on Windows.
The performance of the game is much smoother running natively on Linux. My hardware is a bit under for the game's requirements but I was fortunately able to play somewhat smoothly for what I have. On Windows, the game was unplayable for me.
