Playable with some frustrating porting and remaster decisions. Proton doesn't have the crashing and green cutscenes from Windows.
FFX randomly doesn't have audio and needs to be restarted.
Worse, when I did alt-tab successfully from FFX (which takes a few tries) it would create a transparent blue box across both monitors that doesn't go away until I restart the entire system. Restarting KDE Plasma doesn't make it disappear.
The menu to choose which game is inaccessible by keyboard and controller.
The keyboard bindings are absolutely bizarre from a PC player's perspective, and the mouse isn't supported in-game.
Battles take a surprisingly long time of several seconds to load - it looks like the Windows version shares that problem though.
Rarely the game will take more like 10-20 seconds to load the next area and while loading appear like it froze on a black screen.
One optional chest in Bevelle was inaccessible because the keyboard only offers 8 directions to move and I couldn't push a pedestal with the off-axis camera angle in the destruction sphere area.
Runs as expected, which makes sense since this is a Unity game
Fullscreen and windowed work normally, but borderless windows are just fullscreen with black bars to compensate for different aspect ratios
Works well except the ending cutscenes
At the end, the two videos are just the test pattern. They're a big part of the story if you care about that. I compensated with Youtube.
No proton version got past the Unity loading screen
I tried with the default, GE, experimental, and a wide variety of past Proton versions.
Worked perfectly, just without cloud saves
After the path over the weekend this worked perfectly fine both on desktop and the Steam Deck, including after restarts. Just don't expect cloud saves to sync your game between devices, but I don't know if Windows supports that either.
Enjoyable on desktop and Steam Deck with one obscure caveat
Steam Deck cloud saves overwrite the desktop's Flatpak saves
For OS's like Debian which only support Flatpak Steam installs, make sure you make your main progress on the Steam Deck and not the desktop because the Steam Deck's cloud saves will overwrite the desktop's. It seems to be universal to every game and I still haven't found a solution to that problem.
