Playable, but you'll need better device than this
I have two main laptops that I use. One is this machine (Intel i5 gen8) with no GPU, and although game runs, I had to tune-down all the settings to minimum including resolution to beable to play it at around 15 FPS. Raft is very resource-hungry! So I switched to another laptop with Nvidia 980 build-in 4Gb card. It didn't helped at all! So then I connected External Amplifier from Alienware to my 17R3 with Nvidia 2070 Super and 8 gb of gpu ram, and then game worked, after I run steam with "prime-run". On extreme! So, summing up: to play it on good settings you need a recent card with 8 Gb of GPU RAM or more. Useful commands:
- Checking which GPU is active:
nvidia-smi
- Switch to Nvidia if you installed switchable driver:
optimus-manager --switch=nvidia
- Make 100% sure to run steam on Nvidia:
prime-run steam
Connection to voice server never finishes due to usage of Vivox
The game uses Vivox voice libraries in which developers dropped support for Linux. Actually I've played all first 3 games in the We Were Here world and it's a bummer that this game does not work via Proton (I've tried 3 versions). Also, could not find online any information for flag to turn Vivox voice communication OFF. If someone knows it, please share!
After the developers updated the game recently, works on proton with no issues.
