Game runs perfect and as a point-n-click adventure afficionado you need to know this game ;-)
For some reason protontricks and winetricks threw permission errors when running on an already installed version of the game (through Steam). I had to uninstall the game. Run winetricks with the correct prefix so it could create all directories and files itself:
WINEPREFIX=/home/[your_username]/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/316160/pfx winetricks dinput dinput8 d3dcompiler_43 d3dx9 dxvk122 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2017 devenum
Then I copied the /pfx folder to a temporary location. Installed the game. Ran it once. Copied all files from the temporary location back into the Steam directory.
Then I needed to use Proton 4.11-13 since none of the newer Proton versions would run the game.
With all this, the game runs perfect.
If protontricks/winetricks is not giving you permission errors when installing on your system, the whole copying back and forth may not be necessary.
A cracking classic point-n-click adventure. Still looking good, some great animations, fantastic story.
xdotool selectwindow windowunmap & %command%
With Proton 7 and up, the game actually launched for me, but only in the small 640x480 window. The xdotool launch options allow for a pleasant full screen experience. If you have created the player.ini file prior to using the xdotool launch options, remove that file or the launch options will not open the full screen. Occasionally when minimizing the game window (by tabbing out), the game will revert to the small 640x480 rendering while in full screen display. You can save, exit and restart the game to get back into proper full screen mode.
Installed the game with Steam, installed the HD pack from https://tljhd.github.io/ and could not properly get the game running from Steam. But starting ScummVm as stand alone application, pointing it to the game folder and starting it worked excellent.
