"No Vertex Shader"... Switched to OpenGL Beta and it went away.
After I switched to the OpenGL beta everything worked smoothly. And with the wiimote community controller layout it felt very similar to playing it on the wii, though you may need to use the right trackpad to course correct the gyro occasionally.
Steam tried to load it... black screen... back to steam. Tried steam reccomended and forced experimental proton, neither worked.
I played perfectly for over 8.5 hours straight and it DID NOT CRASH. It played great right up until near the end.
After 8+ hours of playing, it started to freeze for a couple seconds when I added or removed track. Otherwise everything worked perfectly!
I played perfectly for over 8.5 hours straight and it DID NOT CRASH. Somehow this runs better for me on Linux than it ever did on Windows. I played the Northeast US map starting at 1830. I won the game at 1970, but decided to continue playing. I connected every city, bought every factory, had mail and people going to every city, and supplied every city with at least 1 resource it needed for production. In the end I had 21 trains going all over the map.
Eventually the game started freezing for a few secons when I added/removed tracks. When I added the last train.. the train started to go all wibbly-wobbly on the screen, this was around year 2070. Then the game brought me back to the win screen, but it didn't me the option to continue, so I exited to the main menu. So... it didn't crash, but I still had to stop (after 210 in-game years of playing). I think If I hadn't added that last train, I could have kept on playing.
