The singleplayer and Steam co-op experience is good but the game has issues with crashing on launch and dedicated servers.
Frequently crashes before getting to the main menu.
There is no official support for Linux on the Client or Dedicated Server. The Dedicated Server does not work under wine because of either Diffie-Hellman or bCrypt. It is impossible to join a dedicated server because of the previous issue. Co-op multiplayer over Steam is not affected by this issue.
Works pretty much perfectly OOTB
Ocassionaly have issues with Alt-Tab or opening the launcher with the Super key not working
gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip --intro-skip --skipStartScreen
The game crashes every 10 to 30 minutes.
I have tried Proton Experimental, Proton 8.0-4, Proton 7.0-6, GE-Proton8-21, GE-Proton7-53 and the game crashes on all. For best performance use Proton Experimental.
Pretty much works out of the box.
Sometimes you can't type in the terminal
Mods from r2modman/Thunderstore also seem to work without any issues.
Recordings can't be saved and the game doesn't fit the full screen but otherwise is fun and works
The save and cancel buttons on the save file window for recordings can't be pressed at all
gamemoderun mangohud %command% -vulkan
If you alt+tab the alt key gets stuck until you press alt again in-game
The game stutters a lot when connected to a dedicated server. Singleplayer and playing through Steam are fine.
LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib32/libtcmalloc_minimal.so gamemoderun %command% -novid -nojoy -nosteamcontroller -nohltv -particles 1 -precachefontchars -noquicktime
mastercomfig high preset with some small modifications
The game doesn't launch without 32-bit libtcmalloc_minimal.so being included in the LD_PRELOAD environment variable, see launch options. You might need to install packages depending on your distribution. On Arch install lib32-gperftools from the AUR.
gamemoderun mangohud %command% -novid -nojoy -nosteamcontroller -nohltv -particles 1 -precachefontchars -noquicktime -fullscreen
mastercomfig High preset (https://comfig.app/)
The reduction of bots in casual mode and the 64-bit/DXVK Native update has made the game much more playable than it has been in a very very long time. I've been playing TF2 for a long time so a lot of the stuff I have done isn't necessary but makes the game feel nicer. Playing the game OOTB should give you a good experience as well.
Mostly performs as I would expect but crashes are quite frequent but don't occur consistently
gamemoderun %command%
Very freuqent crash to desktop
Got stuck in dialogue once
