The recent Aurora update broke the game on proton. Worked out-of-the-box before.
'protontricks --no-background-wineserver 1531540 d3dcompiler_47' needs to be run in the terminal for the installation to be complete. Game will not run past the launcher otherwise.
When changing the ingame graphic driver from directX 11 to Vulkan 2.0.0 through the settings the fullscreen broke, but the issue was solved with a game restart and has not repeated itself since.
If the d3dcompiler method doesn't work you might want to try using dotnet472 instead (it didn't work for me though). This might require you to temporarily use proton 5.0 to get around certain warnings but you can upgrade proton version back to higher versions after installation.
Intro video fails to play but causes no issues and can be disabled in the in-game options menu for future launches.
Most recent patch (1.16) is completely borked.

Most of the time new and existing saves would fail to load and crash me to the login screen. Music would continue to play and would require a system reboot to fully recover.
Couldnt get past character creation, constant crashing.
Attempted to install most recent AMD drivers (Mesa 4.6 23.1.7), attempted Kernel update, attempted OS update, attempted full game reinstall, attempted verifying integrity of game files, multiple system reboots/shutdowns.
Also attempted Proton 8.0.3, Proton GE 8-11 and 8-14. Nothing has worked.
Kernel update fixed all stability and texture issues, can load into and out of New Atlantis just fine now.

The key to my woes was updating the kernel from 6.2 to 6.5, this is at the time of writing not available directly for mint so you'll need get it from the ubuntu kernels.
