Proton-6.21-GE-2
The game ran flawlessly for weeks with the default version of proton, but as noted by others, the 1.11 patch introduced heavy texture artifacts which make the game nearly unplayable visually. I have tried RADV_DEBUG=llvm, different versions of proton including Experimental and Proton-6.21-GE-2, and also altering the in-game video settings. None of my efforts made the slightest bit of difference. Time to downgrade to 1.10.

Installed successfully, including Origin, but game dies with PhysX error
The full error (pops up in a dialog): Failed to initialize the physics system. Please ensure you have an updated version of the PhysX System Software installed.
Proton Version: 5.0-9 Launch Options: None
I installed PhysX via protontricks (protontricks 1238020 physx) but the problem remained. I also installed PhysX manually, but that didn't help either.
