While better than it was a few months ago (slideshow) it is still not playable at these frame rates on my hardware.
In Windows the game will run at 50-60+fps with no issue. Through Proton 20-25fps was the best I got on significantly lower settings.
If I put a minimum cap of 40FPS the game looks like a software rendered game from the early 2000s
It seems to run at about 1/4 - 1/3 the FPS I get on Windows.
Unplayable frame rates.
Game loaded but the frame rates were so low that it was totally unplayable (1 or 2 seconds a frame). I changed proton versions too see if it would help, lowered settings, changed the NVIDIA driver. All changes made it worse not better.
The game is in a complete state of disrepair (at least with my hardware) and I can't recommend anyone play it
On a few occasions the mouse just stopped working
Crashes can corrupt offline saves as it isn't a save it is a Save State.
Game randomly and without understanding would drop to a slide show until restart. (In Third Person)
The game crashes regularly and spectarularly. Sometime requireing a restart before anything else will run. As in other games would crash because of the crashes Nightingale had.
Avoid it if you have my hardware configuration.
with 7800xt you will likely have seek out a .ini file to edit. If you are willing it will work as well as it does on Windows.
VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1 VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 mesa_glthread=true gamemoderun %command% -ignore-windows-system-certs
Edited "engine.ini" adding to the bottom of the file
[SystemSettings] r.pso.PrecompileThreadPoolPercentOfHardwareThreads=50 r.PSOPrecaching=0
The game occasionally won't close in steam and has to be stopped.
The 7800xt was often reported as having issues a year ago and still has issues. This is not a Proton or Wine issue but a Nightingale or UE5 issue. The same steps are needed in Windows with some systems running a 7800xt.
