Overall runs pretty good so long as you set to expiremtnal proton, current stable release of proton seems to cause a major grass/foilage bug
Grass and foilage was glitching a lot, my fix was to switch to proton expiremental, instead of using proton stable.
Use expiremental proton if you get grass/foilage twitching issues.
Doesn't work as of the last few days due to origin launcher.
Pre-EA app update, BF4 ran perfectly on Proton, now it is fully unplayable, the game does not launch whatsoever for me.
Also used proton stable latest (this forum did not allow me to pick multiple options), older versions of proton stable, and proton expiremental with no avail.
I would not recommend purchasing BF4 in its current state, i could be an anamoly but i suppose if you buy it on steam to test it out before the 2 hour refund period you can get your money back risk free.
This is barely functional, the windowing is janky and broken, origin is a laggy/crashy mess, and often the game does not start up.
Origin windows randomly popping up, getting in front of the game.
Fullscreen and windowing is extremely janky, 85% of the time it is not an actual window and does not allow for any keyboard input.
Keyboard was non functional most of the time, requiring to kill the process.
Game would often not start at all, usually requires 5-7 retries to actually start up, in which origin will also crash and not allow the game to run.
At this time, i would absolutely not recommend purchasing this game, it is on the higher end of bronze in my opinion, almost unplayable completely if it weren't for the game performing fine.
Gets to initial loading screen, then crashes
Used to work 2 days ago, no longer works.
Had sub 60 fps even on lowest settings with my 10600k/1660ti (mid tier PC), and strange microstutters (it doesn't seem like shader cache generation either)
Random crashes locking up my PC and requiring me to go into TTY to kill t he process through control+F5 and then control+F1 to return back to desktop.
The game just feels like it's not rendering right, like the framerate is unconsistent.
I would not recommend playing this game in its current state, but it has full potential to have good stability in the future.
Runs amazingly, i recommend using the Vulkan renderer within the game's graphical settings so there is no directx translation
Proton-5.9-GE-7-ST
It's not preferable to the average joe who isn't familiar with having to configure wine for a game, not nightmare-level, but not easy.
Audio was a little choppy/chippy, hard to explain really, definitely not annoying to listen to but i can tell it's not how it sounds in native, only a very minor issue to me.
Game would freeze randomly for about 10 seconds sometimes
Whenever i would join a game or start/load a world, there would be (seemingly) a ~40% chance that i would actually be able to get in and play, if it didn't however, it would either:
Crash to a bug report dialog
Freeze at loading and eventually slow down my entire system to the point where i could not even kill the process and have to forcefully reboot by manually holding my PC's power button.
Before using the patch from the github, i would simply get a pop-up saying "File not found", and would not even be able to start the game.
However it is important to note this may have been a problem on my own system and not necessarily proton as i ran commands on the directories to make absolute sure the game had the complete ability to read and write to files in the folder.
Overall with the tabbing issue causing unplayable FPS, needing to extract files to the EAC directory, and scope lag, this game is not stable
Used https://squadfm.org/#installation-linux-only , otherwise does not work.
Unplayable FPS if i tab out and back in.
low FPS when scoping
Issues listed above, unplayable FPS if i tab out and back in.
