Game crashes with eventfd out of FDs error every ~30 min with esync enabled (with FD limit raised to 512K). Runs flawlessly after setting PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1.
Current beta build works fine
There are a variety of different gamepad problems in the current live version that make gamepad use quite hard. The December 15 v1.0.2 public beta branch seems to resolve all of the issues for me when used with Steam Input support enabled (out of the box experience).
Everything else seems to work out of the box with the default Proton 5.13-4.
Game requires VC Runtime 2019, but the included UE4 redist installer and winetricks both fail to install it correctly. You can replace the UE4 redist installer with a functioning one following these steps (albeit replacing the game's directory name with Temple Of Snek): https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4138#issuecomment-850575335
In addition, the game ships an empty Linux depot. You'll have to manually select a Proton version via the standard properties dialog for the game to download correctly.
Works out of the box now
Proton 6.3-6 includes a fix for the Unreal installer that avoids any need for tinkering, making the game fully functional out of the box.

The game starts in fullscreen mode, if it ever loses focus while in fullscreen the game only renders a white screen until restarted. Swapping to windowed mode works around this issue and allows for alt-tabbing.
Level select menu has minor issues. No performance issues ingame.
Somewhat frequent "eventfd: Too many open files" crash. Doesn't seem entirely solved by PROTON_NO_ESYNC.
Under default Proton 6.3-5, I couldn't get it to display anything other than a white screen despite audio working (same issue as losing focus in fullscreen).
The game is probably playable to end if you wanted to due to frequent autosaves, but the experience is not amazing overall.
