Followed a lot of previous advice. Had to add a flag for D3D or else I would receive less than 5fps and could not play.
Compared to the same box running Windows 11, performance is a bit shoddy, but to be expected given all the virtualization.
Once it's playing it's fine. It takes too much effort to get here. Hopefully there is a solid fix coming soon.

Have to replace default protonfix https://gist.github.com/Centzilius/57892e5d1aaea51b3f389e6f1d587c97
Unsurprisingly runs slightly worse than in same build on Windows, likely due to all the virtualization

The 6.2 release broke the stock launcher again, so I'm back to running XIVLauncher. The XIVLauncher has improved a lot recently, and you can download a native Linux XIVLauncher now as a flatpak. This has greatly reduced the amount of effort required to use the custom launcher.
I purchased FFXIV on the Steam Store and my account is linked to Steam, so once the XIVLauncher is installed just add XIVLauncher as a non-steam game to Steam and set the launch options, everything else just worked!
