I played the base game in Windows, with the same computer set up. I found Linux to be more stable, and my game hasn't crashed once.
PS4 controller worked with Big Picture, but didn't work in game. To fix it, I installed Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime. You can find this in your library under the "Tools" collection, in your library.
After installing the Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime, go to Steam>Settings>Controller>PlayStation Controller Support, and Enable in Games w/o Steam support.
Finally, in Steam>Settings>Controller>Desktop Layout, click edit, and switch the template from "Official Layout for - Desktop Configuration" to "Gamepad". This is the template I found works best.
Game works fine now a day after DLC release. Good luck out there tarnished.
If you're a fun of old RTS games and run Linux Mint as your OS, then you will enjoy this game.

Without the fixes, the game had heavy artifacts, and I couldn't view the start screen.
Didn't experience any issues when playing online with my friend in a 1v1.
