Only opens in 6.3.8. Rest gave sound card error. With 6.3.8 window opened but black. Even streaming from Windows PC didn't work.
Created player.ini containing '800 600 32 0 BaseCMO.cmo'
Still Life 1&2, same developer worked flawlessly with 6.3.8
Aside from not being able to play fullscreen, and only through a smaller window, I've also encountered a major bug which I couldn't solve.
As others have mentioned below, you have to create the player.ini file.
There are some issues with the mouth movement of characters.
Only windowed worked, I had to adjust scale and resolution to make the window a bit bigger.
There is a painting comparison puzzle, which I could not complete because the position of the marking circles is wrong due to the game being windowed.
player.ini needs to be created first
800x600 window only and jittering animation

Had to create player.ini file as others mentioned. Scaling the display via xrandr also helped a bit.
player.ini has to contain this text:
800 600 32 0 baseCMO.cmo
Creating a player.ini file containing the line, "800 600 32 0 baseCMO.cmo" as a previous reporter suggested. The lips do move like horses, and even worse than intended, I think. They don't look the most natural at https://youtu.be/hmlPReYayts?t=246 but on my machine they look worse than that, like the same effect but very jittery, as if on way too much coffee.
Anyway, without that .ini---even if you lower your desktop resolution to 800x600---the game starts full-screen and you hear sound, but it remains blank, and alt-tabbing causes it to quit, the same as another previous report stated.
Jittery lips as noted.
