In windows it worked fine, I have tried by all means with proton and it fails to give me the same error, but for some reason it was only able to open once for me. now it gives the error:

The game installs and opens fine, once it reaches the first loading screen it will give an error saying that Steam Client needs to be running. Steam was running and I was online so it seems to be an issue with proton or something.
