Game needs protontricks with directshow and Windows Media Player11 to play ingame animations. Otherwise it will crash when first animation starts 1 hour into the game. With directshow and wmp11 the game works perfectly. I verified with English and Japanese version of the game. If Proton starts crashing on animations again, because you played with Steam settings or game Properties, then uninstall and reinstall the game.
