protontricks -> The Testament of Sherlock Holmes -> Select default wineprefix -> Install a Windows DLL or component -> physx
Should be started with touchscreen

Proton 9.0-3.
CONCLUSION

Installed physx manuall, by renaming the installer to game.exe in the game directory. Launching the game over steam, to install physx, and then rename everything back to normal.
Controller not supported during initial main menu. But works properly ingame and afterwards.
Needed to install physx manually, by following the guide in this thread.
Essentially downloading physx from Nvidia and copy the installer into the game directory.
Then rename the "game.exe" to something else e.g. "game2.exe" and rename the physx installer to "game.exe"
Launch the game, which should bring up the physx installer, install physx. Once done, rename everything back to normal.
Afterwards the game boots up and plays just fine.
However a controller is not detected in the initial main menu, but works flawlessly once in game and afterwards.

In Wayland, the game only starts if using gamescope with the monitor resolution. In Xorg, it doesn't need any launch parameters.
gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 %command%
physx
If you are using Wayland, for some reason this particular game cannot initialize the video and doesn't even start. So after some attempts, I found out that using gamescope with my monitor's resolution (3440x1440) makes the game work correctly (adapt the launch parameters to your resolution, of course). Also, don't forget to use protontricks to install physx, and click on the dialogue for the installation to complete.

Couldn't even start the game.
physx
Opened a bug report on valve's bugtracker: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/7606

Have to use touchscreen on main menu, but in-game, controller works just fine.
This is adapted from a fix for Bionic Commando Rearmed posted by Nandru on the Steam Community website.
- Desktop mode
- Download PhysX from Nvidia's website (don't install yet)
- On Testament's page in your library, go to manage, and then browse local files
- Rename "game.exe" to "g_ame.exe"
- Copy/paste PhysX installer into this same folder, rename installer as "game.exe"
- "Play" game from Steam. Go through PhysX installation instructions, should only take a few seconds. Then close installer
- Delete PhysX installer that you had named "game.exe"
- Rename "g_ame.exe" back to "game.exe"
- Run the game. Main menu won't respond to controller, so start new game with touchscreen. In-game, use official layout, which plays like an Xbox controller
After installing PhysX via protontricks the game worked just fine.
from protontricks installed PhysX

Cop-Paste PhysXLoader.dll
I even tried the solution with copying-pasting the PhysXLoader.dll file in the game file that is recommended in various forums. Didn't work

Very unresponsive. Mouse does not work on SteamDeck - only Touchpad but that also only partially.
Can't be played without mouse and keyboard at steam deck.
Game run perfectly, just a little bit slow to start.
Very slow to start, but perfect for all other
Works great out of the box

Played with Proton 6.3-7 and PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Full play-through with mouse and keyboard

When the camera is set on third-person, wasd movement behaves awkwardly bad (only responds when you move in diagonal, or in other words, pressing two keys at the same time), and once you press the "w" key the character keeps walking endlessly. I found out that this issue also occurs in other windows' systems, so maybe it's not an only linux issue. Apart of this, switching to a gamepad controller (Xbox One) makes it a better experience with no movement issue.

Overall a great out of the box experience.
There were some unexcpected hiccups in crowded areas otherwise nothing of note.

Seems to run fine, the game is completely playable as far as I can judge.
This was in older versions of proton (I think 3.x) Seems fine with 5

The game is crash constantly, mostly at saving, even in windows because it runs out of memory due to be able to only allocate 2GB of ram. It can be fixed patching the exe with this tool that will allow it to allocate up to 4GB of ram. After patching the game runs flawlessly from start to finish.

set to minimum due to the rather week gfx card - but works fluent

Pressing "Restart" after changing graphics settings causes it to freeze, but after killing the process and manually restarting, the game runs perfectly
