The game only recognize kb&mouse. Your character fires towards the cursor, so you need to aim by moving cursor. It is not that fun with touchpads.
You also need to manually assign some buttons in your control schema.

My previous report regarding GE Proton 7-14 was incorrect. I was using Proton Experimental as provided by Steam and the game would not load when I switched to GE Proton 7-14. Regardless I was able to load and play the game and compared it directly to UZD running natively on a computer right beside my Linux host.
