Perfect out-of-the-box experience
Superb out-of-the-box experience, zero tinkering and runs great - some may even say debeste.
During the final sequence of the game, a key cutscene does not play, and the final boss is completely frozen in place and cannot be defeated. This is fixed by restoring the previous checkpoint, which both plays the cutscene, and makes the fight work as normal.
Overall works very well, aside from the final boss issue I mentioned.
Pretty much perfect out of the box
Pretty much the same online experience as on Windows
Overall the game is pretty much perfect with very minimal tinkering on the recommended version of Proton. I did notice that when trying to load a few select addons onto my own singleplayer game it would crash during loading, Gamemode_Slayer was one of them, but Blockland is fairly unstable with loading addons anyway, even on Windows.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=64 %command%
Stuttering and framedrops were fairly common w/o tinkering. With the launch option added, they were still present, but not as frequent (probably about the same as Windows).
Yes you read that right, 64fps. Not 60fps. 64fps. I experienced significant stuttering issues on Arch and was just about ready to thumb the game down on ProtonDB, until I found a thread on Steam talking about how to fix the stuttering issues: https://steamcommunity.com/app/22380/discussions/0/3182216552774269201/ And yes, this does in fact work with the DXVK_FRAME_RATE env variable, I tried it and the most annoying stuttering problems completely went away. It's not entirely smooth sailing, but it's about the same as you'd get on Windows.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 %command% -nojoy -nosteamcontroller
Very minor. ALT+ENTERing when the display mode is set to one of the screens makes the window shrink with a messed up aspect ratio. Inputs are bugged in this mode. Can be easily fixed by setting display mode to "Run in a window".
Pretty much the same online experience as on Windows
Wasn't sure where to put GModCEFCodecFix so I'm putting it in the concluding notes. What you'll want to do is right click the game in your Steam library, go to properties, then to Betas, and in the Beta Participation dropdown select "x86-64 - Chromium + 64-bit binaries". After you've done that, let the game do its updates, and download the GModCEFCodecFix from solsticegamestudios on Github. Run that, and it should autodetect GMod's installation folder, apply the patches, and you're good to go. If it whines about files failing their checksum or whatever, go and verify the integrity of the game files on Steam and try reapplying the patch again.
For me the game used to be pretty much unplayable even with all this tinkering and I had to resort to running the game through Proton. After trying the game again on native after a few months, I've had a much better and more streamlined experience.
Crashes specifically on native build. On Proton 9.0-2 I have yet to experience any crashes.
Pretty decent, but out of the box is very annoying because of how often it crashes on native. Windows EXE with Proton is pretty much mandatory to get a stable experience.
Works great tinker-free
Can't remember if I had to install Ubisoft Connect via Lutris or not, but it's a very minor thing regardless. Overall generally works great out of the box and with minimal tinkering.
Attempted to use dgvoodoo2 DLLs, game would not launch
Incredibly poor performance, making the game almost completely unplayable
Occasional unexpected stuttering. Might be present on Windows too but I haven't tried it on there.
Runs pretty good overall with few technical problems, aside from the stuttering issue
It's kind of a pain trying to access other windows while playing. Windowed mode + ALT+F11 does not work for me as it produces black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. It's fine if you're just focused on the game and don't need to tab out to anything, but otherwise it's very finicky.
Overall a really solid experience, aside from the alt+tabbing problems I mentioned before.
