Little tinkering required for multiplayer. Singleplayer works out of the box.
- Fullscreen: crashes when alt-tab in fullscreen
- Windowed: alt-tab can break mousegrab in windowed. Go to game settings and toggle mouse grab to fix.
See other reports to fix sync issue for online multiplayer. Need to modify DLLs or else sync issue will end multiplayer session shortly after it starts.
Use protonfixes as suggested in previous reports. Also sure to also disable Esync or else you'll be stuck on infinite loading screens. After I disabled anti-aliasing, vsync and bloom in settings the game runs very smoothly.
noticable lag spike when loading first fight after launching the game. Runs smoothly after that.
Game runs without issues using Proton GE. Skill videos work as well.
Do not use proton experiemental. Skill videos causes crashes.

Resolution can be weird at times. However that is likely due to the fact that I'm using tiling window manager which causes issues with games at times. Changing to exclusive full screen fixed the issue.
Multiplayer worked without any modifications. Did not have to apply the coh2 dll patch.
Game ran out of the box. I'm using proprietary NVIDIA drivers with wayland window manager (hyprland)
Some minor issues:
- game defaulted to lowest graphical settings, but ran well on higher settings as expected
- resolution can be wonky when you change it in game, but restarting game fixes it
Requires very stable internet connection for smooth gameplay. Streaming video in background led to severe lag spikes.
If using Proton 7.0.x or Experimental, the game crashes immediately. Haven't had any issues using Proton 6.3-8
Fails to start. Logs indicate there is some issue with the game not properly reading memory. It reported:
0 MB physical memory [0 MB free]. 0 MB paging file [2048 MB free]. 0 MB user address space [0 MB free]. Read from location 00000000 caused an access violation.
Runs perfectly out of the box
Tried running this game again after a year. Seems all the issues have been fixed and is running perfectly out of the box with Proton 5.13-4
Ran smoothly out of the box on proton 5.0-7 Didn't encounter any issues, but I have not yet tried playing multiplayer.
Perfect
Does not properly return to fullscreen after alt-tabbing on Gnome 3. Borderless and Windowed modes works perfectly.
Ran perfectly without any issues on 5.0-7 and 5.0-8. Played singleplayer, online matchmaking as well as coop with friends for 40+min sessions. Didn't encounter any issues.
Works perfectly out of the box
Works well out of the box. Did not encounter any linux-specific issues.
Tested:
- mouse & keyboard
- xbox controller
- multiplayer (friend lobby & random lobby)
32 bit mode still has some audio issues, but very minimal and isn't disruptive
Cannot join lobby of friends. Fails with communication error. Steam friends (using windows) can still join my lobby. Have not tested with another client using steam play.
Runs smoothly
The game doesn't exit properly and needs to be killed. Other than that the game runs smoothly and haven't encountered any issues when playing the game.
Very minor issues:
- Was not able to login/register after the initial login screen, but it did work if you login immediately after opening the game.
- The game did not exit properly the first time I launched the game (had to kill it). But it did close properly the second time I launched the game.
Game wouldn't start
Tried PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 and various proton GE versions, but none worked.
Proton-5.0-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.1-GE-1
With PROTON_USE_WINED3D
enabled, the game runs at like 1 FPS. Without it, the game runs smoothly, but only for a few seconds before crashing.
Frequent crashes if PROTON_USE_WINED3D
is not enabled
Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.9-GE-2-MF
Even with wined3d enabled, the game crashed on me once. Without wined3d, the game seems to crash every 2-3 map changes
Although I listed Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF here, I saw no noticeable difference in performance/stability compared to Proton-5.0-GE-1. Either one should work.
Performance:
If I run the game without any additional options, the game runs quite smoothly (60 fps) but I do encounter crashes when loading new maps.
By enabling PROTON_USE_WINED3D
, it seems to prevent the crashes but my fps also drops to 45. Worth it in my opinion.
I have also noticed some slowdown when playing for a long period of time after doing CM (fps dropped to 20-30 when normally is at 45). I suspect memory leak?
I have made a previous report here where I tested with Proton-5.0-GE-1 and had an unplayable experience. I'm not sure what changed since then but both versions of proton now seems to be playable.
6.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Without any customization (other than using custom Proton GE version) the game runs about as smoothly as on windows.
Doesn't start up by default, need to install protontricks 249330 d3dx9 dotnet40
Cannot battle
Was able to do everything up until the actual battle. The battle opens a new window which remains black screen. After waiting a few minutes, it does start to play background music, but window remains black.
