If you alt+tab out, the game will lose focus until you restart the game. To counter this, enable the Virtual Desktop support in winecfg for the prefix. For example (path may vary): ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/233550/pfx winecfg
Then go to Graphics->Enable Virtual Desktop
Linux native is buggy as heck, use any Proton.
mf-install required, as well as downloading a dll for cut scenes.
crashed once and broke controller support had to log out/in to fix
without tinkering a bit, there's no cut scenes
Using GOG version of the game: https://lutris.net/games/install/2675/view
The installed version is the Freespace 2 Open Mod script provided by Lutris. Looking up this game on WineDB will show that it's playable with WINE, so Proton shouldn't give any issues IMO.
If your graphics card can handle it, turn on Triple Buffering in Video settings to prevent cut scene lag.
Native version definitely has multi-monitor issues which sucks for a game called Multiwinia. Could not get it to use primary monitor or use Windowed mode. Use Proton Experimental instead.
Works great with Proton Experimental.
Some starter level logos(?) before the video on each level does not render. The actual cut scenes render fine.
If Double Fine can release a Native version or improve support then this is a must play.
Very stuttery frame rate but otherwise works out of the box.
this game is difficult, but the linux experience was easy, just click to play
