Game loads but I can only play one or two game modes (the first one and the tracking one). The rest will always go to a black screen for two seconds, a Unity box will show up and then crash to desktop.
Works well up until you finish a course and it tries to load the results.
Game crash every time I finish a course or task.
Error or black screen.
The game fails to load with the latest version of Proton (4.11-11) even with %command% /dx11 where it then opens a browser tab saying "Cannot create shadow depth buffer" and that my graphics card fails to meet the minimum spec even though it does.
When I try to use Proton 4.2-9 I don't get that error however it just goes to a black screen that I have to kill with a process manager.
Works perfectly
No issues at all. Just hit play and go. Alt+tab and window worked for me fine too.
Works fine apart from some initial oddities
The mouse wouldn't work at the start, had to use the keyboard but after a few minutes it seemed to work.
Works fine.
The game works perfectly fine for me without any issues with my default Proton 4.11-8.
Game works well and functions normally apart from some performance issues and input lag when levelling up heroes after some progression.
This lag causes the mouse to be significantly delayed for a little while.
After progressing through many levels and slaying many minions, there is noticeable lag when using the "Ctrl" or "Shift" button to level up your heroes.
Game doesn't launch at all.
Game doesn't launch at all. Steam says "Running" for a few seconds before it fails and gives up, this happened on every Proton version I've tried from 3.7-8 to 4.11-8. Bungie have also been hostile to Linux gamers and refuse to allow Linux systems to run the game.
Game runs well but requires proper settings to work
Change the settings below to avoid issues present in the default configuration. When the launcher appears click on "Configure" to alter these settings:
Sound - Go to the "Audio" tab and uncheck "Disable Sound" which was enabled by default.
Video/Screen - Go to the "Video" tab and make sure Anti-Aliasing is set to either "2x" or "Off", any higher will break things.
And then optionally, adjust the other settings to your liking, I also disabled "Upload Gameplay Feedback."
- In the same window, on the top menu, click the "Dragon Age: Origins" menu item and then "Save Settings". Then go to File > Exit.
Sometimes when quitting, the process will still be running, usually if you click "Stop" on Steam it will kill that background process in a few minutes, otherwise you can kill it manually via terminal.
Crashes after a minute or so
Game constantly crashes. I can play for a minute or so until it just exits.
Game loads fine but servers have shutdown.
It's impossible to play, whether native or on Proton due to the shutdown.
Game works pretty well, I can play with online multiplayer with non-Linux players and performance is decent.
Game runs well but has crashed/frozen 2 or 3 times (in the span of 19 hours) seemingly from a slow memory leak. Exiting the game and re-launching, or even restarting PC every 10 rounds seems to prevent this occasional occurrence.
Used with Proton 4.11-8 which is the default for my setup.
Refuses to even start
Game doesn't even star. A small window appears with some logos and then it quits. Others have been able to do some tinkering to get it to launch but you can't even play online anyway as EAC kicks you. A waste of 15gb.
Set launch option as "-changedir" without quotations to fix launch error.
During the "planning phase" when selecting your plants before the level starts, the edges of the screen that show the upcoming zombies for that level have choppy animations akin to an FPS drop, but this doesn't affect the whole screen and is very minor as it doesn't detract from the game.
There's also some minor tearing when clicking through the main menu but it's only for a split second.
Alt+Tab does not work, it will keep bringing you back to the game window however it won't crash or cause any problems.
Taking screenshots will cause severe graphical degradations forcing you to Alt+F4 to relaunch.
The above issues may sound like a lot but you can play the full game without many issues. If you use the above launch option you'll have very little problems apart from no Alt+Tabbing/Screenshotting. I disabled 3D Acceleration too but I didn't notice much of a difference.
I've disabled Esync and enabled Async so my launch options are:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Occasionally, some textures would be missing. So some enemies would be invisible, just floating guns or the environment (such as walls and the ground) will be missing too.
Lots of stuttering and frame drops when loading a map for the first time. This goes away after a few minutes.
Game would occasionally crash or fail to launch. Sometimes this would lead to a system hang where I have to restart.
The anticheat used is FairFight/GameBlocks.
Overall the game runs okay with a few issues. The main problems are just the initial frame drops when loading a map for the first time and occasional fails to launch/crash. The latter isn't common and the former only affects the first time you load a map.
To combat this the frame drops on first map load, just start a custom game with bots and load each map and play for a few minutes. Note that changing the graphics/textures will reset this process.
Works as well as on other platforms
The game itself isn't a great port but works as well as the native, which is surprising given it's running through an added DOSBox layer. Linux>Proton>DOSBox>Game.
Not perfect but pretty playable. A bit of tinkering will make this a perfect game.
Can't Alt+Tab and only plays in full-screen.
In the second game, the Triangle/Y button was not mapped correctly.
Game has slowed, then crashed after doing too many levels/worlds, fixed by reloading.
The game runs pretty well however there are a few issues, at least when using the basic version of Proton.
Slows/Crash - this isn't common at all, in fact the game runs well for me. However after a few days of playing for a while it has slowed down after I played through multiple worlds and then crashed with a UE4 error unless I restarted the game. This could be because my SSD was almost full and I forgot about the preshader cache.
Cannot Alt+Tab. For some reason I have this problem with a few games but I can look past it, it's just annoying. Although I can use Steam overlay. Perhaps fixed by using a custom Proton.
Video Cut-scenes Don't Play - this is easily fixed with custom/GE Proton and/or MF-DLL solutions. The in-game/engine cutscenes work fine, but you need one of those fixes to play the actual video cutscenes.
Triangle/Y button mapping - Controller works almost perfect, but for some reason in the 2nd Spyro Game it doesn't recognise the Triangle button on DS4 controller. Looks like a simple fix I just know nothing about controller. First game it works perfectly though.
Voices and some ambient sounds wouldn't load, but after setting the following launch options it works perfectly:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%
The fix above worked in getting the voices and ambient sounds back and in sync.
Major issues
Volume randomly changes (could be issue with game itself)
Game would crash often at certain times or fail to start and require you to manually kill the process.
I had many issues with this game, many times I could not tell if it was the game itself or to do with Proton as others would have similar issues on Windows.
