Installed fine and game starts
--option fullscreen=FALSE
Fullscreen results in a black screen with a cursor, forcing the game into windows as noted makes it work but resolution is limited to something bordering on unplayable.
If you instead use Heroic and install wine-9.0 then you are able to install the widescreen mod and make the resolution 1920x1080 which makes the game playable.

Black screen unless run with --option fullscreen=FALSE
(Mind the two dashes. ProtonDB displays them as a single one in the previous comments)
The game is playable in windowed mode, but YMMV.
Fullscreen is black, but you can hear audio and see the cursor. You have to use launch option --option fullscreen=FALSE to play windowed.
Only one resolution is selectable in the configurator - 1024x768. If you play windowed on a 1366x768 desktop it will cut off part of the game screen.
Set launch option "--option fullscreen=FALSE" to run in windowed mode. Otherwise you get a black screen.
Download the widescreen fix at https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/236-ufo-aftershock-widescreen-fix/ and apply to the game. Then if after starting it still does not use your resolution go to the UFOAftershock steam directory, under Profiles, find your profile, edit options.txt and where there is 'GKEY 2 "video_mode" INT some_number' change it to 'GKEY 2 "video_mode" INT 1' -- after that the game will run in 1920x1080 or whatever your chosen resolution from the widescreen fix is.
The game gets a black screen in fullscreen. If you add the launch options "--options fullscreen=false" without the quotes in runs in a 1024x768 window and this can't be changed. Bug report for game is at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2975
