COD uses ricochet anti-cheat whitch activison desided to not put any effort into supporting on linux.
works if you install windows or stream it from xbox or a pc using windows 10/11. according to activision if a work around is found that doesn't affect the anticheat people who use it won't be punished.

Hi there, I'd be able to offer a bit of explanation as to why MWII (and eventually MWIII) will not start.
Activision has began using a custom made Kernel-level Anti-Cheat, known as Ricochet Anti-Cheat. This has become standard since the 2019 reboot of the Modern Warfare series. The Anti-Cheat uses elements only found in the Windows kernel, and Ricochet is NOT cross-compatible with the UNIX Kernel/Shell, which Linux is built off of.
However, not all hope is lost.
Infinity Ward, the main developer of the game, has mentioned that, if someome manages to find a workaround, they will not be punished for using it, but under some conditions:
- You cannot impede on the Anti-Cheat's function.
- Altering any base game files or files relating to the Anti-Cheat is prohibited.
- You CANNOT use said workaround to cheat.
I will go ahead and mention that while you can technically boot into the game's menu, it will immediately hang the game's process and crash, at least on Arch.
To any of you seeking to find a workaround, best of luck with finding one.
The game installs just fine, however when launching it just quits the game. Swapping to Proton Experimental does not affect this whatsoever.
No, ONLY IF they primarily want to play remotely away from their desktop and only on the Steam deck.
Screen brightness lowest, left on charger for extended play time
Remote play, text was tiny but monitor solved the difficulty
During remote play, steam deck screen freezes but gameplay and controls continue to work on desktop monitor
Some submenu items do not display on steam deck, but display normally on desktop monitor
11/24/2022 PLAYABLE UNDER STEAM APP - REMOTE PLAY Audio can be redirected away from SteamDeck by ingame settings to use monitor, headphones or other audio devices (Including voicechat/microphone)
Custom low graphics settings, steam remote play - optimized balance setting/prioritize network traffic across desktop and steam deck. Desktop system slightly above min reqs for MW2.
ONLY using steam deck as controller, desktop monitor displaying normally, steamdeck tends to freeze and stay frozen for several minutes, gameplay continues on monitor with no issues. Controls are responsive, different from designated controller.
ISSUES - Some submenu (map/gamemode filtering - only main selections appears) not appearing on steamdeck. Font can be tiny to read under default, have not tested ingame settings to increase font size.
****SETTINGS are mostly default for my desktop capabilities. Have not tested lower settings yet, will update my review after more testing.
Possibly blocked by Ricochet anticheat.
I'm not really expected this game to run on SteamOS due to the anticheat, so I did not even tried any "tricks" which involves any config file adjusting etc. Not worth the effort and time, it will never work.
