MANGOHUD_CONFIG="fps_limit=30,no_display" mangohud %command%
When there are a lot of dead bodies in frame
You should have a bit spare performance for battle where there are a lot of dead bodies. Lying dead bodies ruins performance so much
I didn't played all my current 79 hours on steam deck only (mostly windows PC with 6750xt), but I play ng+ mostly on deck
No internal in-game fsr, 1024x576, deck's fsr (sharpness 5), mangohud 30 fps lock (mangohud has lesser input lag). Mangohud 40 fps lock is not bad as well
Slight infrequent stuttering during some parts of gameplay

Framerate goes down at times during gpu heavy scenes
This game is not very kind when it comes to hitching. However, the steam deck (I was playing this game with the oled) has an advantage: precompiled shaders. That helps a lot with the stutter, however I was still experiencing them until I locked my gpu clock to 1600. When I did that, the stuttering vanished. The frame rate does drop, but it doesn't stutter. It makes the game so much more playable. Medium settings, fsr on auto, and locking fps to 30fps is a must in my opinion.

It was hard to defeat some of the bosses on medium settings because of performance, so I lowered the difficulty to easy.
Had a couple of crashes during my walkthrough.
Encountered a black void behind a door in the game once. I had to reload to fix it.

Slight stuttering later in the game
Few freezes and crashes
Mission breaking bug in Chapter 11, had to reload a past save

Works great after Valve ships pre-shader cache and Proton Hotfix(default for this game now) several hours ago. Playable on 1280x800 with medium graphics setting with 40-50 fps. Stable 30 fps with 1080p. No more stutter.
Fps drops after opening menu.
Some texts are abit small
Didn't show Controller buttons on first start, a restart fixed this
The intro sequence stuttered quite heavily. After that less stutters occurred
After an update this morning ( 28th of Jan) the game started and I could play it, despite some stuttering and it ran fine with fps jumping between 40 and 60 on low setting with fidelityFX 2.0 set to balanced
Runs well at medium settings, controls work well and made better with gyro. Avoidable but consistent crash when opening map.
Gyro as mouse is janky; use gyro as joystick for best results
Opening the 2D map caused a consistent crash. Can be avoided: use the locator (R3 by default) and do not select the map tab in the RIG. All other tabs seem to work fine.
Enjoyable and runs well.

30 fps. TDP set to 10. Resolution 900x600( will get stutters with that TDP at higher resolution) FSR balanced
Small text may be hard for some
Crackling after changing settings I game. Does go away in a few seconds
Game will crash if you view map. Otherwise pretty stable 30 fps after a little playtime
framestutters up to few seconds
major stutters at first.
there were crashes when trying to acess the map. Had to switch to proton next. Now the map opens without resulting in a major freeze.
First staring the Game is a mess ... it take a long time to start the firt time and the stutters will get better. Graphicsettings: fsr to preformance with everything on low, accept lighting is on medium. Framerate cap to 40 fps. You should install it on the ssd and not the sd card.
The Dead Space experience on Deck is playable but only if you're willing to ignore the map screen & push through a bunch of freezes.
Set gyro as thumbstick
FSR2 performance makes text blurry and difficult to read
First launch after building shaders: Major 90+ second hangs during intro splash screen & at multiple points during the game's intro sequence. Frequent 10-15 second hangs just before some dialogue or just before entering a new area. Second launch: Mostly smoothed out, no more major hangs, remaining hangs are less frequent and are shorter.
Consistently crashes upon viewing map screen
Tried with the default Proton install, Experimental, and GE 7-14. The game boots into the "compiling shaders" screen, then crashes to Steam.
Have not tinkered with any launch args or fixes. Maybe one could work?
The audio got out of sync with the gameplay and cut scenes because the video mostly froze up but the audio continued.
The game was a bit stuttery once the ship was in the tether and then had some nearly hard locks

Set gyro to act as thumbstick
FSR2 performance makes text blurry, hard to read
First launch: Game froze for upwards of 90 seconds during splash movies, did so again at multiple points during the game's intro cutscene. Continued to hang for 10-15 seconds at a time just before certain dialogue points during gameplay, or just before entering certain new areas. Second launch: Mostly smoothed out, gameplay hangs are less frequent and are shorter.
Consistently crashes upon opening map screen.
I ran this game off an SD card which may have contributed to some of the hanging issues.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Significant shader cache stutter, dxvk async helps reduce stuttering. Can freeze for up to 2 seconds at worst. Once the precached shaders are available I expect this will no longer be a problem.
Map screen currently crashes, avoid accessing it in the menu at the moment.
Has constant 30+ second freezes on a microSD, installing on NVMe drive significantly reduces the amount of freezes and shortens them to a second or two.
DXVK_ASYNC %command%
Game has crippling shader compilation stutters where the FPS dips to 0 for seconds in regular proton, sometimes getting you killed or leading to crashes, switching to GE-47 and forcing async with the launch command fixed these stutters for the most part and increased overall performance. however the game would now crash when trying to do a new game or access parts of the inv menu indicating it crashes upon trying to touch the previous shaders but never gave me issues when doing newer sections, leading to me deciding to reinstall to load everything through this setup.
I recommend 30fps if docked or 40fps on handheld, medium settings or lower, FSR 2 to Quality docked and Performance or Balance if trying to reach for a mostly consistent 40fps, I never saw lowering the in game res to help much at all but only make all menus really blurry with no significant performance gain over just using the FSR slider.
Need to test for longer to make call, 2gbs of VRAM in BIOS or higher might be worth trying if you experience these crashes
Devs did not put even the slightest effort to checking for Steam Deck issues before release leading to performance being mediocre by default despite it working really well on PC, will try to update/do a new report if I find any other solutions to smooth out the exp, if this sounds like too much hassle I recommend sticking to the 2008 release
Game will stutter since it buliding the shader cache as you play, despite it saying that when you first boot the game.
There will stutter because the game is building the shader cache despite when you first boot it telling you that it building the cache so be ready for fps drops as you move around the ship.
I knock down my fps limit to 40 and it will stay their a bit but since the game is building its shader cace. Be ready for alot of stutters until it get cache fully bulit, you can knock it down to 30 fps if your worried about your battery life and if the stutters are becoming more of a headaache til the cache is fully bulit.
