Ok I have bought this fxxxxxxxg game and I got new hardware nothing special but better than before so I gave it one more try but it chrashes from time to time everything is fine well except for the fullscreen modus and the most important thing is that the fxxxxxxxg windows freeze and I can nothing but pray well what should I say it sucks and I think some games that are supported with proton get more suppot than others and this is a game that doesn't get the support that it earnes
After checking in every few months to see if other users can make it work finally saw a couple if users that were able to run it. Not me.
SteamDeck=1
Music stops randomly
Keeps crashing when changing areas, also some enemies spawn but attacks do not get triggered, I could run past them without combat
For me it's still an awful experience. I will try to run it on the deck and will post if I am successful, otherwise I will continue emulating the PS1 version.
Game still freezes randomly
Tried also with my Steamdeck OLED and save issue
Out of the box, no tinkering required in this instance.
It's been years for it to work like this, but now it seems absolutely stable! And no tinkering required!
In contrast to other reports, this worked out of the box for me - audio and everything!
Abysmal
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
It does't run at all wether with PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% or without when it starts I see the Square Enix lettering and that's it the screen ist black like a elephant ass only the sound sounds although if it runs for a while it cracks and is't clear
Game crashes all the time. I also tried with GE-Proton but it does not improve anything. The game is just poorly optimized, even on PC there are crashes. The Steam version isn't worth getteing imo. Just get the Switch version or play the original PS1 game instead.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Basically the game freezes completely. Sometimes the music disappears.
The game crashes in almost every battle.
Music plays fine, intro video plays fine, general audio seems fine but freezes when entering combat or entering new zones, maybe related to audio changes as estated by other users, after alt+tab system asks to force quit or wait, waiting does nothing.
Haven't tried with audio fixes suggested previously, will try and update report.
Game starts up in a larger resolution, you have to manually change it in the settings.
The first few minutes of the game are fine. But when I got to the combat, I experienced very frequent game freezes that I had to force quit out of. I tried every proton version, including experimental and GE. Nothing fixed the constant freezing. Cannot recommend this game right now.
text fringing
had to use display out to reduce resolution to 800p
Sometimes would crash between loading screens
Intro auto skipped to narraition by deafult, it wouldnt take a name unless you backspaced all the letters, dont let it overwrite or itll come up blank and youll have to type it AGAIN. text fraying and audio crackling on just experimental and the crashes still occured. sadly makes it a no go.
hate to see it, eta was 6hrs batterylife. but with no videos and some crashing between loading screens. its untinable atm .heres to hoping itll fix eventually. An ideal game fopr steamdeck for me.
As long as the wonderful music score is missing, this game will not be an enjoyable experience.
Music is not being played, at all.
I have a suspicion it has to do with the vocalised versions. Trying to play these songs from the sound test does not work, but most other songs will work.
However, all music is missing in-game. Only sound effects play. It is possible the sound routine in protondb corrupts these files in some fashion.

Proton-6.12-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
The game works great for 15-20 minutes, but then crashes. Apparently, removing audio will fix the issue, but I did not try that.
Moved all the psb files (except for sound_config.psb) from windata/sound to a different folder (I named mine sound_backup).
This customization will disable sound in all its entirety but will prevent the random crashes from happening.
Had to remove the sound files otherwise it will cause random freezes with the game.
So between choosing with Windows and experience FPS problems or Linux via Proton and experiencing removal of Audio to fix the stability issues, I suggest that you do not buy this game.
I mean the music is great in the game so living without it sucks but plenty of people play games without audio.
Proton-6.12-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
I deleted everything in the sound folder except: sound_config.psb
As I said, I had to delete it.
I'd probably recommend to wait out for a stability improvement since audio bugs and crashes can happen.
Playing around with the Music Mode will sometimes completely remove the music. The Pause/Play button won't do anything. A restart is required to fix this issue.
Tried this on Windows but it doesn't seem to happen there.
Game crashed once after combat encounter. Didn't really tinker with anything and I can't get it to crash again for the time being.
A process called 'pressure-vessel-launcher' would not stop running in the background and had a lot of disk write activity. This only happened once during a 4-5 hour test. Needed to use system monitor to terminate it.
The freezes are insurmountable. You can't advance at all.
The game completely freezes when changing screens or in combat. Music continues playing, but no action can be taken. Eventually the game will be recognized as unresponsive and the prompt to terminate it will show up from Wine.
The game works fine for the first few minutes then it freezes randomly. I haven't even left the world map yet.
Game freezes randomly
Gameplay video: https://youtu.be/Pru0qSgH1yA
First crash started at 5:20 and then 8:17
Not playable at this point.
Blinking, stuttering, but this appears to happen on Windows as well.
Steam Controller does not work properly when steam overlay is disabled.
Can't play this right now for 5min without it freezing. All gameplay stops and it shows the last valid frame. Background music still plays in this state, but no game action can be heard. Freezes tend to happen during scene transitions/autosaves and during combat.
