The pre-alpha release of Space Engineers 2 works great out of the box on Debian 12 with the propriatary NVidia driver (550.135 at the time of writing) for the RTX 3070 Ti. The game starts and is playable as it is advertised in it's pre-alpha release. The game should feature raytracing support but I could not get it to work, I checked my own setup with Cyberpunk 2077 and raytracing works with my setup. This will probably eventually get fixed at some point during the development of SE2. The provided proton launch options are optional, on a Debian(based) setup with recent NVidia GPU drivers the game should run without. I tried these options in an attempt to get raytracing to work. Keep in mind that although the performance is excellent now, this may change in the future when more gets added to the game in later release stages, especially on setups using RTX 2060 or earlier. My system holds V-sync (75hz/fps) with extreme graphics preset. Check the roadmap and more info on the official Space Engineers 2 website if you want to learn more.

if raytracing and the better anti-aliasing are not something you need to enjoy a game then it will be perfectly fine to play
if i switch from FXAA to FSR for better Anti-Aliasing the game will crash for me
Raytracing is not availible at the moment because the game thinks the system is to old/slow and displays a warning at the start, might be a thing with NVIDIA's drivers

Proton Experimental(bleeding-edge)
Graphics Preset to High
VSync on
The game does hitch a little. There will need to be a layout change for controls.

It works until you explore any amount on demo platforms. Havent tried the space demo.
I beleve this is mainly becuase of it being in an Alpha build state. As this runs fine on my Desktop.
I've tried the following
Proton Experimental
GE-Proton9-23
Proton Experimental (Bleeding Edge)
Ruducing in game Resolution to 640x480 under display menu
Turned off VSync
VSync
VSync Variable Refresh Rate
I have also tried
limiting FPS to 30
TDP Limit
Allow Tearing
Game still crashes after leaving inital spawn. Runs really well up untill that point.
Ingame sound was more on my left instead of center. There were sounds, while I wasn't near anything.

Raytraced performance is probably not the greatest, but that's just general Mesa graphics stack not having the most mature raytracing support quite yet. Overall it just worked and felt stable enough. (Though this is from the very first alpha release, so things might change and performance issues might also be completely alpha-related)
![](https://avatars.steamstatic.com/a6e38f4053745d54fd9f4ac22babdc654aea66fa_full.jpg)
There ain't much to the game quite yet, but what is there works fine. Not sure how it should perform, so I won't speak much about performance - it does chug a little when there's a lot on the screen but that might just be the RT performance of my AMD card being subpar.

I have 32 gigs of ram, and after several minutes of the game showing the splash screen without booting, I checked btop to find that ram utilization of space engineers 2 alone had climbed to 29.9GB. before I could stop the process, everything froze completely. Guess I'll have to wait a bit to try this again. :(
It also may have been trying to use the intel graphics instead of my amd card, but that shouldn't have stopped it from booting I wouldn't think.

So far the text that is hard to read is the Alpha watermark in the upper left corner.
No data from my Windows machine.
My engineer gets to take 3 steps or so toward the red ship and then the game crashes. Also, so far, game saves are not backed up to the cloud.
