I couldn't get past the initializing screen
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
I could not get past it, no matter the configuration I tried. Sector's Edge also basically stopped using any CPU or disk at that point, and I even let it run for half an hour just in case it was trying to do something in the background.
I tried Proton Hotfix, Proton Expiremental, Proton 8.0-4, Proton 7.0-6 and GE-Proton8-23, all with and without the custom command. Nothing got past the initializing screen.
Doesn't go past initialization screen
Cannot see weapon/enemy models and other UI Elements (sights and weapon skins). This would make playing against others nigh-impossible.
Things that were missing from the game:
- Weapon UI (Guns, Hands)
- Projectiles (Grenades, rockets, etc)
- Enemy Models, Player Models
- Other UI Elements (Missing wall-guns in the ship, missing guns and skins in customize, etc)
I wasn't able to connect to any servers, and did have some bugs when trying - it tried to connect me to a server, took a bit, then before anything else I was being swapped maps. But once that finished (not graphically, it just told me it was), a green bar told me "Click to return to the battle". When I tried pressing this, it ended up bugging my screen out.
Now mind you that may be a me issue rather than a proton/game related one, but I still did experience it
Things I've tried:
[Proton Versions that launched]
- Experimental
- 8.0-4
- Hotfix
[Proton Versions that crashed on launch]
- 7.0-6, 6.3-8, 5.13-6 (crashes harder for some reason), 5.0-10, 4.11-13, 4.2-9, 3.16-9, and 3.7-8
[Launch Option I tried]
- PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
This did not appear to change anything whether present or not. I have not tried any additional launch options.
Note
The game is "playable" if all you wanna do is play Single player and annihilate buildings. That's still fun. but for any serious gameplay, unless there's a fix, maybe play this in Windows
Ran without a hitch with the latest proton after the final update.
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=1024 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Just use latest Proton-GE and some additional options.
Input lag solved.
I put the graphics settings on toaster to make sure to avoid the issues with the keyboard not responding in game, but seems like it's been fixed since wine 7.22 (or maybe 8.0) which was the last wine version I tested with
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Mild input lag
Mild latency in input and network. Still playable.
Mild network lag - to be expected with smaller multiplayer titles
Very playable and what issues you may experience are more likely attributed to its beta status and less to do with being played on Linux.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
high input lag unplayable
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Some packet loss. It doesn't seem to be a problem with my internet.
Limiting your fps decreases input lag, but seems to have another hit lag issue when shooting another player.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Stutters are very frequents
Games reports lots of package loss, very high input lag and stutters
There is some lag input but I think the developper can resolve this in a update.
Lag Input
Long loading when on map
No problem even with EAC
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Input lag are making impossible to play online.
The game uses OpenGL, so replace it with wineD3D. EAC that has limited support for Linux you need to wait more time than Windows for the game to launch(EOS setup).
Multiplayer works excellently, as the game has linux support enabled in EAC
Most of the reports on protondb are from when the game didn't have linux support enabled in eac, but it has had it enabled for a long time now.
Great game, and after some tinkering acts pretty well, no specific to platform bugs occured.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Even considering EAC support online worked great
Due to errors with DXVK it needs to be turned off - and as game uses OpenGL and not DirectX we can just safely replace it with wineD3D. Also, since this game uses EAC that has limited support for Linux you need to wait 30-40 seconds for the game to launch(EOS setup).
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
Need to press alt+enter to force fullscreen, Display options don't change anything
Input can be weird at times, doesn't seem to be a Linux only issue though.
Seems a bit less performant than on Windows
To make the game run (currently, as EAC or something fumbled support) you need to add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to your startup options and wait. Else, the game will not start, as of now
There are issues with keyboard input latency on Linux which is not present on Windows, though the devs have been making steady progress on the issue throughout the closed beta. In the game options, enabling Bare Minimum mode (removes most of the post-processing effects for a significant performance improvement) has removed all the keyboard latency for me, though many other people are still reporting having this issue on Linux.
Performance on Linux and Windows is identical, though both operating systems currently appear to have some slight issues with AMD cards not performing as well as Nvidia equivalents.
Multiplayer works perfectly.
Multiplayer fully working as of the open beta today (10/22).
Keyboard inputs are behind slightly sometimes
Runs significantly worse on linux
Multiplayer is fully supported, EasyAntiCheat is enabled for linux, and talked to dev and they fully support people playing under proton
This game has just entered open beta, beforehand it was unaccessable due to beta key required
Le jeu possède Easy Anti-Cheat, ce qui bloque au démarrage
As the other reports mentioned, EAC seems to keep it from running on Steam Deck as well.
Broken. Sure glad it stopped us from cheating, or playing it, or whatever.
Linux support coming sooner
Devs(two persons,previously said one. sorry) are working on bringing proton/steamplay/linux support in the next patch. So,its coming way sooner than expected.
The Game Will be Supported A Year or so Later
The Game is currently super borked and wont even open, beta and stable alike. However, supporting Linux is on the roadmap of the game. Only one person being the sole developer and maintainer, the game is progressing slowly. But the dev is working hard and hopefully a year or so later the game might come to linux with more polish than current state. Please be patient and wait. No use trying right now.
Cannot start up due to EasyAntiCheat
Steam installs it, but the EasyAntiCheat loads another modal every time the loading bar finishes, never actually opening the game.
Cannot pass EAC loading screen
The easy anti cheat screen show and loads but loops on the same view. The game cannot be launched.
