Game ran out of box, didnt require any tinkering besides Dx11 to Vulkan.
during areas (act 2) where shadows/smoke is heavily used, it caused slowdowns (100fps capped, to 67fps-86fps) switching from DX11, to vulkan fixed this and didnt cause any new issues.
Runs great, mods are easy to install, multiplayer with friends worked just fine. Although saves are uploaded to steam cloud, all saves I had used on a windows machine was usable on steam (may seem stupid to say, but things happen), There was way more stability it seems on Linux than Windows. Game performed the same or better than windows (been quite a few updates since I last used windows for this game)
Game runs like its native on Linux, Max fps, highest settings, no artifacts or bugs.
Its just not playable at all unless you want to play alone, offline. Besides that theres other bugs in Bo3 naturally so......not good.
gamemoderun %command%
You cant save as the game crashes during the tree scenes at the end of "Game Over", cant find a fix.
Didnt test Multiplayer. Zombies Private Matches crash 100% of the time, they dont work at all. Public matches are a 90% at least for me, Sometimes it would crash sometimes it didnt. Solo play zombies is the only way I was able to actually get in any vanilla map/DLC/Modded maps.
Game stutters in the menu constantly due to steam checking DLC.
Offline works as said before, cant get online/custom matches to work.
Hopefully GE or a Proton version fixes this, I tried many different versions, lutris, bottles, config files. no matter what only solo play works. Unfortunate for how legendary zombies is.
Without 3rd party clients (Like T7x aka Plutonium of Bo3) you just cannot play without crashing.
Using a client called T7x.
Cant save if you crash.
Without client, I cant even start a private match with friends, apparently they updated the DRM a few months ago and its causing issues.
Very stuttery FPS (due to steam lol) frequent crashes, mouse flickering constantly.
If you want online functionality, you need to use a client called T7x (a fork of boiii) by alterware.dev
Offline/Local is perfectly playable, except you crash at the end of every zombies game.
Once again, T7x. As of 12/4/23 the steam version is unstable and unplayable (even unsafe if it were to work) T7x is open source, uses emulated servers (not dedicated from bo3 steam, users host like Plutonium servers) and fixes a lot of bugs, it also implements patches from T7 Patch to fix other security issues Boiii didn't cover. If you want to play Bo3, you have to use this until a fix comes out. In order to use it, just visit alterware.dev website, join the discord, go to the github and download the client, move it into your bo3.exe folder, then add it as a non steam game and force proton experimental. Make sure you have windows steam downloaded for wine!
Game ran out of the box, no tinkering or switching proton.
Multiplayer on steam is dead/not very safe to use, I play on "Plutonium" for Multiplayer due to this. It runs very well, 144fps, no instability or anything.
Worked as expected, no instability.
Modding is very easy (a little different setup), You can use Plutonium (requires some setup, refer to google for tutorials), and the game ran very well.
Runs ootb
saving clips puts it in its wine prefix under /steamuser/user/desktop. You can save and view all recordings just fine, the game runs smoothly and has no issues! friends on windows had no issues with my mic or anything.
gamemoderun %command% -threads 12 -nojoy -novid -vulkan -high
Desktop bar would overlay, had to use an external method to fix this.
For no reason mid match, the game will go down to 8fps-15fps. Nothing in my system is crashing, or going down (MHz, Vram, Usage,) and it will stick to 8fps-15fps until I restart the game. I cant switch to proton, every time I do I cant search for a match because all I get is "Valve anti cheat" pop up saying theres no signatures or missing signatures, Nothing I do fixes this.
FPS dropping to 8fps-15fps for no reason at all. Only game it happens to out the 139 games in my library.
I just cant play it, obviously its a me issue. But with no fix found yet. (ive tried so many things im so tired atp I dont even wanna play it anymore)
-vulkan +fps_max 144 -nojoy -high -fullscreen +cl_forcepreload 1 -forcenovsync +r_dynamic 0
Steam Overlay caused crashing
Online Worked perfectly, Expected Ping for server region, No disconnects or lag.
Steam overlay may cause your game to crash/Bug on launch for a few times. If this happens try -vulkan in launch options, this fixed it and I was able to open the overlay after as well. Other than that issue, the game runs fine. Fps chunks a little when joining the game for the first time after opening (after booting for the first time or restarting PC) but goes away pretty quickly. Game runs smoothly, picked up my mic no issue, Audio was great.
No bugs or issues that would turn away anyone.
Slight bug, ubisoft would ask me to login every time I launched. Simply fixed by installing ubisoft connect to the proton/wine prefix of for honor, after that it was launching as intended.
Played 10+ matches with friends and strangers, no disconnects or performance issues.
After playing for 5 mins, game runs perfect. Starting fps was 35-50, but after walking around for a bit it goes up to 120+ consistently.
Proton Experimental, Game needs to render graphics before it runs smoothly (one raid will easily fix it and it fixes very quickly). Game has no bugs, no downgrades, even ran it on Epic compared to windows where I run it Med and I got better performance still. Tweaks shouldn't be needed, Steams Proton works fine. Launch options are optional but not needed for Bug fixes. Don't get thrashed by the Low fps when you boot the game, just play for a bit and I promise it goes up as long as your hardware meets the recommended specs for the game.
I personally had no issues, rockstar asked for sign in, went in, game booted from there on as normal.
Excellent, but still full of cheaters. Had a blast in private lobbies with friends though.
Game actually ran better on my Linux OS than Windows. During the "Benchmark" and in game, when driving up near the movie theater, my frames would always dip to 60fps-70fps. In general I would get stutters, But with Linux, once everything cached and shaders compiled, it ran butter smooth. Benchmark it stayed above 120fps ANYWHERE. The game is stable as well, no crashing. I did try mods, they worked fine, some didnt. Maybe it was the game, maybe it was the mod, Im not sure.
Game runs....like its native on linux. I use launch options just as a precaution, but they are not needed.
VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 gamemoderun %command%
Game runs better on Linux than windows for me personally, Whittleton Creek Windows Id average 120-144, linux its just straight 144 no drops.
Multiplayer, online, and private matches worked just fine. Modding was a breeze with r2modman (arch AUR) and was even stable with 40+ mods.
Tried LAN with a buddy just for the sake of the review, it ran perfectly fine.
Super fun to play with friends, if you dont own it, and you're looking here. Definitely buy it!!!
Game runs perfectly, even remote play / share play works!
Multiplayer, towers, story, remote play, local it all works as intended. Im very happy that these new games run out of the box at this point of Linux! I was a little worried about Remote play not working (to play with a friend who has a lower spec PC and doesnt own the game) but it ended up running just perfect! he got a stable 60fps, no disconnects or lag, no input delay.
Runs flawlessly, if you want it, buy it!
Played Scenario and vanilla/custom maps with friends. Both ran flawlessly, the in game mod manager works with Linux (thank god) so it makes it such a simple thing to use custom maps and such.
With 1.0 breaking optimization for Majority of users (even breaking the launcher for some) I dont think you could enjoy it.
1.0 update has brought some "Optimization" issues (as of day 1), preupdate, 144fps+ with 1% lows of 100fps-120fps. Now its 90fps with 1% lows of 30-40 and major stuttering on majority of maps.
After a mission, graphics/FPS is completely fucked and capped at 19. Have to quit to desktop to fix, Optiwand on GE causes FPS to actually break. Outside optiwand, 100fps, after using 15fps, and only went back up to 100+ when viewing inside the optiwand.
Character Customization is extremely laggy, Models wont load until walking up extremely close, Stutters, Graphical Artifacts.
FPS issues got even worse.
FPS depends on YOU, everyone is currently experiencing different issues. People with my exact system, are getting normal fps, no issues. I tested on W11, to make sure it wasn't Linux. I was right, it wasn't (besides the optiwand issue) it is generally the game at fault. Try to play, if its pre patches for 1.0, you might struggle. But after the patches it should be fixed.
Objects Pop in and out, Visual artifacts sometimes. Smoke cant render propely, Playable, but buggy.
mangohud gamemoderun %command% -fullscreen
Objects come and go out of frame (sometimes), Smoke doesn't render correctly at all.
Game freezes on launch where the double barrel would normally shoot and show the rockstar launcher logo, to fix this, open System Monitor/Terminal/Anything that can view processes, find "gameoverui" and make sure it is actively using Ram (30mb average everytime I saw it) and kill the process, the game will play just fine but this will have to be done each launch.
No issues in MP personally, Friend on Pop_OS! had a crash but after that it booted fine (no configs changed)
Enjoyable and fun, can be played as long as you dont mind artifacts here n there.
Game is native as said, shouldn't experience any issues.
Multiplayer works as intended.
Bugs in this game are a feature, not an issue. The game runs as expected
There is a multiplayer beta branch, it is VERY buggy (by default, its very early development) but it is just as playable as it would be on windows. Its as stable and actually runs better on Linux. Mods are also useable, no instability or outlying issues.
