GameMaker boots to a black screen, also tried reverting to the earlier proton version and back but that hasn't fixed it
Waited a few minutes to see if it'd sort itself out but it didn't change
Works for the most part, as long as you are committed to your session, or it'll hang.
Tabbing out and in again makes the game stop rendering, I can still hear it but the display freezes.
This game runs just as well as it does natively.
I'm pretty sure the servers are populated by bots these days, they just sit there and don't move... (This is on windows too, so not a multiplayer issue.)

had to play via big picture mode or the game gets stuck small and in the bottom left corner
This is probably the most flawless game I've seen running on proton thus far.
Some slowdown when first entering a level, but that goes away after a few seconds, and does not negatively affect the experience much. I haven't tested this game on windows so this might happen there too.
Works perfectly for singleplayer, and multiplayer through Nitrox!
To get nitrox working you just need to add it as a non-steam game, then you also need to go to ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/264710/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Nitrox/ and create a read-only file there called launcherpath.txt with a line of where your nitrox install path is from proton's perspective. For me, that looks like Z:\home\thennothing\Downloads\Nitrox_1.5.0.1 The file has to be read-only or Nitrox deletes it the next time you play. After this, launch Nitrox through steam and it'll work perfectly!
Works out of the box, and definitely playable.
This game runs well, but loses about 5~15fps from native@1440p
