I didn't run into any problems using my older laptop on Debian using Gnome, Sway and i3. The game slows down a bit at ~500-600 villagers, which is fine on my system.

I tried playing it via Steam Play. Seems to work perfectly. I don't see any difference with native linux version, though, so I'd still recommend this version instead.
