protontricks 494360 --gui and select the default wine prefix. Run winecfg and in the Graphics tab, you will see the option to enable a virtual desktop. Set to 800x600
Game would appear on top left of screen while cursor hitboxes are severely misaligned. Without the protontricks fix mentioned it is not playable.
The machine I am running it on uses SwayWM and I have set this specific game window to appear as floating in 800x600.
The float settings for SwayWM:
for_window [class="steam_app_494360"] floating enable, resize set 800 600
It works
It's a point and click horror game
Seems to require tinkering to be able to properly interact with the main menu. Not ideal.

This game is locked in 800x600 resolution. The game window gets stuck in the top left corner of the screen and the menu items are only interactible with invisible buttons in the middle of the screen.
The only thing I've tried so far was to allow the game's winecfg to emulate a 800x600 virtual desktop. To do this, type protontricks 494360 --gui and select the default wine prefix. Run winecfg and in the Graphics tab, you will see the option to enable a virtual desktop. (There are other ways to do this instead of through protontricks of course, but whatever.) The wine window may open and close when you launch the game at first, but just give it a minute and the game will work fine in windowed mode.
If you can deal with the inconvenience of changing the system resolution back and forth than you can enjoy the game.
The game only renders in 800x600 resolution so set the system resolution to 800x600 . Not ideal but it then functions without any further tweaks. Everything works including cutscenes, interacting with the main menu and moving/interacting within the game .
When launching the game from a system resolution higher than 800x600 the visuals are presented in a 800x600 box aligned to the top left corner of the screen. However the UI does not align to the visuals and instead aligns to an invisible 4:3 center aligned box (the mouse will change/highlight over empty space that maps to the main menu buttons if you search them out). As noted this issue is addressed by starting the game from a 800x600 system resolution.
Is the previous report trying to run off an NTFS drive (which by default mounts read-only)? Game loads, but doesn't respond to clicks on menu making it unplayable
The game does not start and displays the following error message: "This application cannot start as it cannot create needed files. There may not be enough disk space. "
