For some reason I have to start the game via the icon in Ubuntu's application menu for the first time for each proton version. Only after that can it be started directly from the Steam app. When I tried to start it from Steam before, only a small black screen would pop up and close again. Otherwise I had no problems.
Need to figure out all the keys and map to the controller

Thought mouse support was broken. Turns out the game is keyboard only. Runs flawlessly but not a true point and click like previous Broken Sword iterations.
Working perfectly out of the box.
Seems to work fine. Runs in full screen without any tweaks
Had some fullscreen issues previusly with 3.7.3 but they are gone now.
Had to start with virtual desktop first time, possible there has been some fullscreen fixes in the beta releases since that fixed the issue. Will report again when a new version is released (not beta). Played past the air plane in the beginning on 4k res.
