I've tried several times over the years to get this one running and it has always either crashed at the ESRB logo or given me an infinite loading screen after the Ubisoft logo.
Today however it is suddenly working. The launch options are required for me to get past the infinite loading screen. I have only tried the first 2 levels so far, but all seems well.

Update to my previous two posts.... I changed the launch options a bit, but I don't think that fixed it. What does work is this: When the ESRB notification pops up, Alt-Tab out and back, and then the game starts. If I do nothing at the ESRB screen, it just closes. Also of note is that when you close the game you will also need to right click the Ubisoft Lancher app (on the task bar) and close that too as it doesn't close with the game. And Steam will still show that the game is running until you close the lancher.

Worked the first time, now doesn't.

Addition to my previous post about this. The game worked perfrctly the last time. However, after shutting the game down and trying to play it again later, it only gets as far as the Ubisoft launcher app now. The game will no longer start. I tried launching the game from the Ubisoft lancher, tried adding the launch options in the game's options inside the Ubisoft lancher, and tried clearing the dowload cache in Steam as that sometimes helps some games. I'll see if I can figure something out.

The game finally works. It's been at least a few months since my last attempt, and this time it just works with no issues.
I assume that the new Proton 9.0-2, may have resolved things.
The launch options I use were there from previous attempts, but as it's working, I don't want to change them.
I launch the game. Ubisoft's launcher starts and updates, then prompts for my credentials. After entering those and clicking to remember me, it prompts for a code which it sends to my email. I enter that and click to trust this machine. Then it just starts and runs normally. At max graphices and 165Hz refresh.
I've only played for a few minutes, but so far there have been no issues at all. I'm kind of shocked as I haven't ever been able to get this working on Linux.

By default Unbisoft launcher works. But game stuch in endless loading animantion after initial logo video
I've tried replacing Ubisofr's dlls with ones mentioned on other reports https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3012267225
Seems that launcher is not an issue, but something in game. I've tried different protons. On proton 6 laucnher don't laucnh.
IF I remove laucnher as was suggested game sjut don't start on any proton version.
on proton 8 + lanycher game hangs after ESRB and ubisoft logo. Or rather it doesn't hang, it plays animation of loading, but nothing more.
Setting environemnt varables as suggestd by other didn't help.
Gona check it it would even work on windows (10)

Tried the steps of deleting the UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe, adding a symlink to From_Dust.exe and replacing the two files from a download (as noted in other posts).
Tried various proton versions all the way back to 3.x.x.
Tried the Launch Options that are noted in other posts.
Haven't ever been able to get to the main menu, unfortunately.
Even with the tweaks mentioned by others I have been unable to get the game running. SteamOS 3.5.7 + Steam Deck OLED

At least the game now launches
The game launches and crases as soon as the ESRB warning is over. If you alt-tab during the ESRB, you can move forward to the loading screen that doesn't go anywhere.

Followed the howto on https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3012267225
in the menu, mouse would sometimes not work for a few seconds

The reason it's so hard to get this game to run with Proton is, ONCE AGAIN, the useless launcher. Here's how you can defeat it: 1. Delete/rename UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe and ubiorbitapi_r2_loader.dll. 2. Create a symlink pointing to From_Dust.exe in the game's directory, and name it UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe. Example: ln -s From_Dust.exe "$HOME/.steam/steamapps/common/From Dust/UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe" 3. Download this tarball and extract the two files to the ../steamapps/common/From Dust/ directory, overwriting any files: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zo112j11b3do98vnwzmqw/from_dust_ubisoft_connect_circumvent.tar.gz?rlkey=rq4w0fjtfjt68q1slq6f7lewv&dl=1 4. Set the launch options to: PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% (Yes, you will need the launch options. I could run the game but couldn't get past Ubisoft login without them.) 5. Done! If you start the game and see the blue clouds on a black background screen, with that little spinning circle loading icon thing in the lower right corner, then something went wrong. Alt-F4 and try again. You'll know you did it right when it shows the main menu screen right after the Ubisoft screen. Other problems: The mouse cursor doesn't lock to the window, so windowed mode won't work. You have to keep it fullscreen. The frame rate is hard locked to 30fps. There seems to be no way to increase this (yet). Other than that, it will run great. But there are times where the FPS will drop down to like 20. But then again, From Dust is a 32-bit program so it's likely this is simply a hard limitation in the engine itself. Enjoy!
I tried various changes for the launch command, but not very successful and also changed the compatibility a few times, without any luck.

Tried many different proton versions and cannot get further than the ESRB rating screen before the game crashes.
Ubisoft Connect launches, I see the game's rating, and then it crashes but Steam thinks the game is still running
Ubisoft are a plague and need to be stopped
Works perfectly after a long while it did not! W/ Proton 7

After getting by the ubisoft launcher, the Initial logo shows and then the game crashes.
I've tried potential workarounds from others, including using GE and experimental builds. This game has never worked. This should not have bronze.
Stuck on the loading icon with extreme screen tearing.
Steam experimental with Esync disabled
Game is stuck with 30 FPS. I set the refresh rate to 165hz, or even 60hz, but it's still stuck at 30 FPS
Ok, so there are some steps you need to do in order to play the game.
- Start the game, let it update
- When it crashes, exit all processes of it running
- Run it again, sign in to ubisoft launcher, remember me.
- Change to proton experimental, and set these launch settings: "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%"
Ubisoft launcher poses some issues
Glitches on returning from alt tab (on wayland)
Very short testing time, but it crashed on me twice, but only when launching the game. I blame the ubisoft launcher.
- launch - ubisoft launcher updates, then crashed (dll error)
- launch - Managed to log in, but could not launch game
- launch - managed to launch game and enter menu + gameplay

Nothing - absolutely nothing
Steam claims the game is updating, but never finishes (left for >2hours). Game gets stuck on "launching" with nothing appearing. Tried to launch 20+ times now and nothing.

Does not work, Managed to get to the ESRB Rating at the very beginning but it crashed afterwards.
Used Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST

Still borked
1st lauch, it downloaded a patch and crashed. 2nd launch, it downloaded an other patch, updated uplay and crashed. Need to kill process. 3nd launch, an other uplay update, i was able to logged into uplay. 4th launch, the game start... and crash. Need to kill process (or exiting uplay in the systray).

I've been playing From Dust for several months. It works great with the latest versions of Proton and D9VK.
The game may not start correctly the first 2 or 3 times, but if you try several times, it works!

Even if you disable uplay overlay as you must do to avoid Just Dance 2017 to crush, the game will crash anyway after showing the rated logo

uplay login works, the game crashes when it seems to want to play the intro video

uplay patches on first run, second run uplay patches some more with different screens. Nothing happens after a while and ends with a defunct upc.exe

Uplay freezes so the game will not launch

UPlay patches the game then nothing, even on subsequent runs.

Does not start at all. 1st launch triggers Uplay patch download then nothing happens.

Uplay prevents you from playing this game
