If ur a complete noob and cant figure how the protontrick step, skip this game.

Tinker Steps:Switch to older version: 4.11-13, protontricks
  • Select proton 4.11 in the compatability list in the steam game settings.
  • Install Protontricks seperatly if u dont alr have it via ur package manager/terminal or whichever way u prefer.
  • Launch Protontricks (it can sometimes be slow to load the boxes, just be patient) and select Select the Default Wineprefix -> Install a Windows DLL.
  • Find dotnet40 (MS NET 4.0) in the dropdown list and install it.
  • Choose Windows XP when prompted as the new default windows system ( u can always change this back) and click OK to the notification box that might appear.

Launch the game normally, and let it crash if it does, which it might do the first time. The game should run and start normally now if u did these steps correct and ur cat didnt interfere with the process !

  2. run the game once, let it crash
  3. run protontricks 269330 dotnet20 dotnet40
  4. once proton tricks hangs for a very very very long time then kill all processes with: ps ax | grep 'C:\windows\system32\winedevice.exe'
  5. finish the installation. It will make it nearly all the way through but still not 100% complete.. this is ok
  6. Run game!

I tried all the fixes detailed here. Well, the Protontricks fix installing dotnet at least. Tried all the different versions of Proton in Steam, including the ones by Glorious Eggroll. Tried un-installing and re-installing, the game still won't start. I then installed it via Lutris and it finally works perfectly!

Dotnet failed to install with proton 6.3, didn't try proton 5.x but went back to old trusty proton 4.11. Everything installed quick and easy and once dotnet 2.0 and 4.0 installed the game ran perfectly with no issues.
