I struggled to find my dropbox folder as the file navigation is designed for windows, but it is there if you look for it

Works perfectly! Do not worry about cloud sync. Just install Dropbox on your distro as you normally would, open YNAB and open the budget file in your dropbox. It will work just as the same.
