Switched Right Trackpad to Mouse with Left Mouse Button as the click, certain menus don't seem to like navigating with controller.
The game is a little harsh on Steam Deck battery life but not unbearably so. The artstyle is 2d sprites and low-poly models with low-res textures so you could probably adjust the graphics settings to save some battery without even noticing.

Honestly works totally fine out of the box with the default control preset which I believe was created by the dev I may be wrong
